Blessed are the Children is new thriller from co-writer and director Chris Moore, which has been selected to play at the Horror-on-Sea Film Festival on Friday 19th January. I got chance to ask Chris a few questions about his inspirations for making the film, his influences and what makes Blessed are the Children stand out in the horror genre.
What can we expect from the film?
I think you can expect a slasher film that’s fun, has something to say, and characters you actually care about. It’s one of the most important things in a horror film, but a lot of people seem fine with just throwing in a gaggle of busty 20-somethings and calling it a day. I want you to actually feel something when these people are terrorized. I never want you rooting for the killers. I usually come up with a story or concept first...

I recently had the distinct pleasure of sitting down with the lovely Amanda Wyss from A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). You might not know her name but you will definitely recognize her from the role of “Tina” in that film. She has the pleasure of being known as Freddy Krueger’s very first murder victim.
Amanda has worked extensively in film and Television with some of her more well-known films being Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982), Silverado (1985), and Better Off Dead (1985). Her genre roles include the vampire thriller To Die For (1988), Shakma (1990), Black Magic Woman (1991), To Die For 2 (1991), and The Graves (2009).
Amanda has had over 50 Television appearances in everything from Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (1981), St. Elsewhere (1985), Cagney & Lacey (1986), Quantum Leap (1991), Dexter (2006), CSI (2011), and many more.

Ride With The Devil (Criterion) Ang Lee’s revisionist take on the Civil War is awash in moral ambiguity, along with some stunning cinematography, production design, and fine performances. Set during the Kansas-Missouri border war, Tobey Maguire and Skeet Ulrich star as two friends who join up with the Confederate-sympathizing Bushwhackers, finding an odd ally in a former slave (Jeffrey Wright). While it’s fascinating to see America’s bloodiest conflict through the eyes of a foreigner, thereby allowing much of the previously mentioned ambiguity a certain latitude, the film never loses the bad taste it leaves for one simple reason: it asks us, the audience, to side with not just the Confederates, but some of the lowest trash that made up the dregs, and the fringes, of the movement. Big points for audacity, but snake eyes on the story itself. Singer Jewel is impressive in her film debut.

Following up on our news item last week regarding executive producer Greg H. Sims’ home-invasion thriller Behind Your Eyes, this scribe contacted Sims to get the 411 on the Southern California-shooting production. Written by Daniel Fanaberia and directed by Clint Lien, Behind Your Eyes is the first in-house feature for new production and distribution entity Vesuvio Entertainment Corporation, of which Sims is CEO (not Tri Coast as originally reported).
Writer and actor Fanaberia (who was brought to Sims’ attention by his turn in The Carpenter Part One: And So They Die, an indie film which Vesuvio has picked up for distribution and for sequels) pitched Behind Your Eyes to Sims in the fall of ’09. In an insanely quick turnaround, Sims attached director Lien, and Behind Your Eyes went before the cameras earlier this month.
"It's certainly the fastest turnaround from pitch to production that I've ever been involved with," said Sims...

The Graves has been announced as the first film to join the 2010 8 Films To Die For, and will premiere in theaters across the Us and Canada on January 29th, 2010. Unfortunately this may be a kiss of death for director writer Brian Pulido, since a lot of horror fans avoid movies with the After Dark Horrorfest name on them. Hopefully the strong cast of Clare Grant, Jillian Murray, Bill Moseley, Amanda Wyss and Tony Todd will be able to wash away the stink that follows Adh films. The Graves follows sisters Megan and Abby whose visit to Skull City Mine turns into a mind bending fight for survival against menaces both human, and supernatural. Check out the trailer below and visit the official website here.

Brian Pulido's The Graves is the first film acquired by After Dark Films’ 2010 Horrorfest: 8 Films To Die For, and will premiere in theaters across the Us and Canada on January 29th, 2010. Why do we care? Brian Pulido was our Mr. June 2007 Scary Stud of the Month, that's why! And, of course, it features Amanda 'Better Off Dead' Wyss!!!! We love her!
