Sex & Nudity

  • When Fred Savage is eating peanut butter and onion sandwich, he watches a fictional TV show that shows a woman a few times wearing a very tiny bikini. There is a mention of watching the Playboy Channel. There is mention of an "over-the-shoulder boulder holder" (meaning a woman's bra).

Violence & Gore

  • A monster rips a child's head off and throws it in a basket (no blood or gore, but there are no cuts in the scene and is quite nightmarish). A monster that resembles a human child has its face melted off. Some of the pranks that the monsters play on humans (i.e. emptying a bottle of apple juice and replacing it with urine) are fairly cruel.

Profanity

  • 1 Dammit
  • 6 or 7 uses of Sh*t, a few other milder profanities (god damn, piss, dammit, hell).

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A monster has a cigarette dangling from his mouth in a couple of scenes

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Throughout the movie there are many intense moments, and many times showing people's frustration with each other. There are a few scenes involving "scary monster activity" that even some tweens could consider frightening or disturbing.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The parents call the kids to the younger sons room to tell them they are separating/divorcing. They fight throughout the movie in muffled voices. The little boy pleads with his Dad not to leave & that he'll "be good". It might hit too close to home for some. In the end it appears they've reconciled because the father says "tell them I'm back". Still, it's fairly mature and intense.
