Jurnee openly admits that she was a flirt at the age of three! She was doing a pepsi advert with Joe Montana, and she was playing with his collar, she told t5m. And her perchant for the older man didn't end there, as Jurnee also had many celebrity crushes from a young age like, Paul Newman, Wesley Snipes, Will Smith, Sidney Poitier, and Denzel Washington who she first saw in 'Glory' and 'Malcom X'. Jurnee has never told Denzel that she has a crush on him, now she admires him in a fraternal way. She recalls a hilarious story when she went to the movie theatre to watch 'Waiting to Exhale' starring Wesley Snipes. Everytime he came on screen, she would clap! »

Aah, the Fourth of July. It’s the perfect weekend for barbecuing, enjoying your family… and watching Rambo rip a man’s Adam’s Apple out with his bare hands?
We have tons of Christmas movies, Halloween movies; hell, there’s even a “Groundhog’s Day” film. But what do we watch when we gather around the TV on Independence Day? To help solve the problem, here are the top 10 films we’d recommend as must-see holiday viewing.
“Rambo” series
Take your pick, folks. In a bizarre, twisted way, there are few things as patriotic as watching Sly Stallone blow up freedom-hating bad guys. Even if he were somehow eating a slice of apple pie while shooting those explosive-tipped arrows, it couldn’t be any more American.
“Born on the 4th of July”
Okay, the movie is kind of a bummer. It’s also hard to take Tom Cruise seriously »

The International (Sony) An Interpol agent (Clive Owen) joins forces with a Manhattan D.A. (Naomi Watts) to bring down an arms dealing ring and a corrupt global banking cartel that’s funding them. Superlative thriller was oddly ignored by critics and audiences alike, but expertly blends intelligence (courtesy screenwriter Eric Warren Singer’s masterfully-crafted script) and full-throttle action (director Tom Tykwer stages one of the great film shoot-outs in New York’s iconic Guggenheim Museum), making this dynamite thriller reminiscent of the best work from masters such as John Frankenheimer and Robert Aldrich. Armin Mueller-Stahl is wonderful as a world-weary covert op. Bonuses: Extended scene; Featurettes; Trailer. Widescreen. Dolby 5.1 surround.
The Jack Lemmon Film Collection(Sony) Five films from the two-time Oscar winning actor, focusing on his early career: Phfft! is a zippy comedy from 1954, one of Lemmon’s earliest films, in which »

We here at ComicMix write about heroes all the time. They tend to be muscle-bound, wear spandex and appear in the fevered imaginations of writers and artists. In the real world, people are given the title hero when they are bystanders, victims, or their feats are fairly ordinary. As a result, the term has been somewhat watered down and in need of rehabilitation.
The process could have begun last winter when two movies about World War II were released, featuring very different kinds of heroes. Neither Valkyrie nor Defiance made a lot of noise at the box office nor did they ignite a debate over the nature of heroism in times of war. And that’s a shame, really, since in the former, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, was a patriot, a German who saw Hitler for the devil he was and risked everything to take him down, paying for it with his life. »

“A tan cat appeared on the field. Everybody stood up.” By Kathy Willens/A.P Images Went to the first in-season game at Citi Field last night. My dad was kind enough to spring for the tickets. I liked the Jackie Robinson Rotunda, but my feeling on entering the new ballpark was not exactly awe. I felt as if I had stepped into the Rollercoaster Tycoon computer game. Maybe it was just the sound of the crowd and distant music. First inning, third pitch of the game—Padres lead-off hitter Jody Gerut hit a bullet down the right field line for a home run. The crowd went silent. I looked back a few rows: Jerry Seinfeld was sharing a luxury box with Matthew Broderick. Jerry, in his old-school Mets cap, wore a deadpan expression. Broderick, with long sideburns similar to the ones he had in Glory, just looked stunned. »

Edward Zwick is set to direct New Regency's upcoming "In the Heart of the Sea," a drama inspired by true events.
According to Variety, the plot centers on the fate of the Nantucket whaling ship, which was destroyed by a sperm whale in 1820. Crew members were lost at sea for 90 days, and eight of them were rescued.
"In the Heart of the Sea" is based on the book by Nathaniel Philbrick.
Zwick will direct a script he wrote with Marshall Herskovitz. Fox is expected tp distribute the film, which should head into production some time this year.
Oscar-winner Zwick most recently helmed "Defiance." His credits also include "Blood Diamond," "The Last Samurai" and "Glory."
"Sea" is not the only whale story to head to the big screen, because Universal is also currently planning a new version of "Moby Dick," which Timur Bekmambetov will direct. »

Ed Zwick never met a period of history he didn't like, whether it be Glory's Civil War or the period of World War II most recently depicted in Defiance. So it should come as a surprise to none of us that for his next project, Zwick is teling a true story that happened somewhere in the past. Luckily, he's got a knack for picking some fascinating stories out of history. His next film, In the Heart of the Sea, is about a whaling ship that was stalked and eventually destroyed by a sperm whale; out of the surviving crew that spent 90 days lost at sea, only eight made it back to shore. Variety notes that Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz are writing the script based on the book by Nathaniel Philbrick. And yes, this real life story was the inspiration for Herman Melville's Moby Dick. There's a nice consistency »

Even though I didn't particularly enjoy Defiance I remain a solid fan of director Ed Zwick. I am a big fan of Glory, Blood Diamond and The Last Samurai... not so much Legends of the Fall, but they all can't be good can they? One thing's for certain, I am wildly fascinated by what looks to be his next film, In the Heart of the Sea. Variety reports Zwick will direct In the Heart of the Sea from a script he penned with Marshall Herskovitz. The film tells the fact-based story that served as the inspiration for Herman Melville's "Moby Dick" centering on the Nantucket whaling ship the Essex. In 1820 the Essex was stalked and ultimately destroyed by a sperm whale leaving thousands stranded miles from home. Lost at sea for 90 days the crew struggled to survive and only eight were rescued. Chicago – Ed Zwick’s “Defiance” is a dramatically inert film that misses the mark by allowing its director to play up his notable weaknesses as a filmmaker. Neither satisfying as the action-driven entertainment that Zwick likes to make nor as an emotional historical epic, “Defiance” is flat and dull, only mildly redeemed by two strong lead performances and the inherent power of its subject matter.
Rating: 2.5/5.0 Zwick continues his pattern of falling back on the crutches of the typical action movie - slow motion, rising strings, bombastic explosions, melodramatic monologues - but, once again, he uses them to hold up a plot with inherent dramatic power, thinking that the importance of his subject matter will give his film a weight that he can not. “Blood Diamond,” “The Siege,” “The Last Samurai” - Zwick values epic scope over all else and misses what needed to be a human story to be effective. »

How many Holocaust movies can we make before we trivialize it? How many can we make before we stop learning its lessons (provided we haven't already ignored them—and we have) and it just becomes another shallow attempt at some Oscars? I'm not sure but while "Defiance" doesn't necessarily cross that line, it does remind us that the line is there and it is close. The point of pretty much all Holocaust movies is that the Jews are a beleaguered yet resilient people and "Defiance" is no different. Led by a band of Jewish brothers played by Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, and Jamie Bell, a small group of Jewish survivors hide in the back woods of Belorussia (today Belarus) to avoid their Nazi oppressors. I have to give director Edward Zwick some credit on this point alone because most of his movies ("Glory", "The Last Samurai", "Blood ... »

Despite constant charge from oodles of Christians that Hollywood is a breeding ground for secularism, there is perhaps no other symbolic device more overused in movies than the Jesus motif, always ready to christen a hero as a martyr by association. Behold, here is a film that dares to compare its hero to a different Biblical prophet. For the purposes of this movie’s heavy-handed parallel, Daniel Craig is the second coming of Moses, leading the Jewish people away from persecution during the Holocaust. Defiance is the true story—it has moments of extreme cheese and questionable credibility, but they are supposedly accurate accounts—of the Bielski partisans, a group of Jews surviving World War II in Poland (now Belarus) under the leadership of the Bielski brothers. The title refers to their refusal to submit to the Nazi regime and their refusal to give up even when faced with famine »

The Holocaust has been a popular topic among movies in the last month or so. Some have dealt directly with the horrors like “The Reader” and “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas”. In “Valkyrie”, it was the ominous backdrop that spurred on some German officers to attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler. “Defiance” tells the story of four Jewish brothers that hid in the forest and rescued countless Jews from Nazi extermination. It is refreshing to see Jews as fighters instead of just victims in this shameful past. The Bielski brothers did what they could to stay alive. The movie focuses mainly on Tuvia (Daniel Craig), Zus (Liev Scrieber) and Asael (Jamie Bell). They had escaped from the Nazi occupation of Eastern Poland/West Belarus into the thick forest. Edward Zwick helms “Defiance” with a great urgency. Zwick has been down the war path before with “Glory”, “The Last Samurai” and »
