Kenner Toy Company created an action figure line based on this series. Figures were released of Mahoney, Hightower, Tackleberry, Jones, Zed, Sweetchuck, House and the ultra-rare mailaway Captain Harris. Villain figures included Kingpin, Mr. Sleaze, Numbskull, Claw and Flung Hi. A Callahan figure was rumored to be in the works, but plans were shelved when the series was canceled. Characters also missing out on toy likenesses were Commandant Lassard, Proctor, Copeland, Hooks, Bowser, The Professor and The Chief.
Chronologically, this series takes place between the fourth ("Citizens on Patrol") and fifth ("Assignment: Miami Beach") movies.
The opening theme song "They Wear The Blue" was composed by Scott Canfield and performed by rap music group The Fat Boys.
The name of Commandant Lassard's goldfish here is Finnegan.
A comic book based on the "Police Academy" animated series was produced by "Marvel Comics" in 1989, lasting only six issues before its cancellation. It is believed that the use of Kingpin as one of the villains in this series was due to the brand's affiliation with Marvel.
