Director Ville Mäkelä wanted the part of Kaironen to be played by an actor who wouldn't be regarded as a rapist. Due to his comical roles, Mäkelä suggested Pentti Siimes. When he refused, the role went to Antti Litja.
Eila Pehkonen's role in the script was initially bigger, but it was reduced to a brief appearance in a scene with the school principal.
The film received five nominations at the 1988 Jussi Awards. Both Kari Heiskanen and Antti Litja were nominated for "Best Supporting Actor" (which Heiskanen won), and Olli-Pekka Parviainen won the award for "Best Screenplay". Leena Uotila received an honorable mention ("Best Supporting Actress" was not awarded that year).
