A Trailer for Jean-Claude Van Damme's 'The Eagle Path'

27 November 2009 1:20 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

It's time for the second feature written, directed, and starring the Muscles from Brussels Jean-Claude Van Damme. First we had The Quest, a story he whipped up with the help of Frank Dux (the man Bloodsport was based on). Now there's The Eagle Path. Once called Full Love, this sucker is all-out classic Van Damme with faux serious acting, violence, and of course, the potential love of a sexy woman -- and you can check out a trailer for the film after the jump, courtesy of THR's Heat Vision Blog.

Van Damme plays "Frenchy," a military vet and former mercenary who hides from his past by working as a taxi driver in East Asia. When he picks up a sexy woman one day, he becomes obsessed with the idea of improving her life and decides to do so without her approval. With help from his special ops friends, he sets out to "save" her, »

"A Look Back The At 'No Retreat, No Surrender' Trilogy"

2 July 2009 11:28 AM, PDT | Latemag.com/film | See recent LateFilmFull news »

In the mid-eighties Ng See Yuen’s ‘Seasonal Films’ company decided it might be a good idea to try their hand at making films with more international appeal, initially inspired by the success of a certain Hollywood martial arts movie.

But unlike previous attempts at international productions by the likes of Golden Harvest and other studios, where the main goal was to introduce a home grown star to the west, Seasonal’s aim was to make movies with a combination of American actors in front of the camera, with a mostly Asian crew working behind the scenes, putting together the kind of action that Hong Kong does so well.

Their first attempt, ‘No Retreat, No Surrender‘ was released in 1986...A film which would eventually spawn two sequels.

“Tonight, he either fights for his life, or he’ll be running for the rest of it.”

Top 5 Jean Claude Van Damme films

Hard Target For 20 years Hong Kong director John Woo was the driving force in film on the Pacific Rim. Following the success of The Killer, Woo's 1989 masterpiece of operatic violence, he made out to Hollywood with his chop-socky. Hard Target. Woo's American debut took the Belgium-born Jean-Claude Van Damme to new lows of clunky one-liners and preposterous action scenes forcing you to suspend you disbelief to a max. However Hard Target proved that John Woo was the hottest name in action at the time Double Impact Shot on location in Hong Kong, the film contains not one but two Van Dammes. Jcvd plays twin brothers. The gimmick is to pit Van Damme up against Van Damme which successfully works when one brother in a drunken and jealous rage believes that the other is sleeping with his girlfriend. The film also includes Bolo Yeung as the villain and a muscle-bound lesbian »

Jcvd DVD Review -- Ruminations on a Failing Career, and a Falling Star – Dellamorte reviews Jcvd

12 April 2009 | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Written by Andre Dellamorte I love Jean-Claude Van Damme. I do. When I first saw Bloodsport, I thought that I’d be watching this guy for ages. But times change, and so has the industry. From that amazing film in 1989 to 1998, when Van Damme finished his run working with Hong Kong filmmakers for the big screen, people like John Woo, Ringo Lam and Tsui Hark. But then, the industry and action was changing; moving away from Hong Kong after a decade long dalliance. Van Damme was heading to video, and where Steven Seagal got another bite at the apple or two playing support to rappers, Van Damme trafficked in international films that – one after another – went Dtv. Van Damme was the most emotive of the action legion that tried to take up the Chuck Norris Mantle. His face was like a bruised and stupider version of Alain Delon’s, but »

Schwarzenegger In, Who Else Should be "Expendable"?

18 February 2009 8:45 AM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

My relatively pleasant evening was rocked by an earthquake last night when I heard that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is joining Sylvester Stallone's action epic The Expendables. Now this thing can boast an ensemble of Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Randy Couture, Forest Whitaker, Eric Roberts and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Danny Trejo is rumored to play the villain.

To the optimist, it looks like Stallone is putting together the greatest action movie 1985 has ever seen. The cynic in me, however, remains convinced that this is some kind of trick. I just know that I'm going to enter the theater, balls swelling with testosterone, and realize that there is no movie—just Stallone and a team of Taiwanese doctors ready to steal my organs.

Don't expect Schwarzenegger to flex a lot of muscle, though. His appearance is basically a cameo, where he plays himself. According to AICN, »

Van Damme Rejects Stallone, Considers Bloodsport 2

12 February 2009 8:34 AM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

According to Total Film, when Sylvester Stallone was assembling his team of kick-ass action stars for The Expendables, he asked Jean-Claude Van Damme to join the fight.  Apparently Jcvd turned down the part because Sly was more about the money than the characters.

“Stallone gave me a part in his next movie,” Jean-Claude told Total Film. “But I ask him about the subject, about the story.  He said, ‘You’re gonna make lots of money.’ I don’t want to hear that, I want to hear what was my character.  He was unable to tell what it’s going to be.  [Stallone said:] ‘You know, uh, well, the fighting will be good.’ [So I said:] ‘Sly, what is my character?’ So I didn’t do the movie.”

The movie moved on without him, casting Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Forest Whitaker, Dolph Lundgren, and of course Stallone.

At first it seemed Jean-Claude had turned over a new leaf. »

Why You Won’t Be Seeing Van Damme in Stallone’s “The Expendables”

9 February 2009 2:03 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

I’ll admit, I’ve been a fan of Jean-Claude Van Damme ever since I saw Bloodsport as a kid. While his career and personal life have had their ups and downs over the years, I always hoped that he would somehow make a comeback as a legitimate action star. Jcvd showed that he still has some on-screen charisma left, though it still wasn’t enough to redeem his action credibility. I figured a project like Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming action extravaganza, The Expendables, would be perfect for him—but apparently Van Damme thinks otherwise.

In a recent interview with Total Film magazine, Jc explains why he turned down a role in the film:

“Stallone gave me a part in his next movie,” he told us. “But I ask him about the subject, about the story.”

Van Damme Wants More 'Bloodsport'

2 February 2009 11:59 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

Bloodsport 2? Yep.

Jean-Claude Van Damme managed to get through an interview without hitting on the journalist , and confirmed to Total Film that a sequel is imminent. Now, perhaps you're well-versed on all things Bloodsport, and you remember that there were already sequels. Ah, yes, that's true, but none of them starred Jcvd. And he wants to get it done the right way.

“We’re gonna do Bloodsport 2, which was my first movie. And I want to do it now in a very mature way, where the guy from Bloodsport is a complete bum, maybe abusing his son," offers Van Damme.

Two things: Bloodsport wasn't his first movie. I thought it was No Retreat, No Surrender, but there are a few things earlier that that. His first movie was actually Monaco Forever, in which he played Gay Karate Man. Tough to live that one down. »

2 February 2009 10:40 AM, PST | Manny the Movie Guy | See recent Manny the Movie Guy news »

First of, if you guys haven't seen "Jcvd" yet, what are you waiting for? It's actually a good film, with Van Damme poking fun at his celebrity stature.

Now, Jcvd has confirmed to our friends at totalfilm.com that he is working on "Bloodsport 2," and he is calling it a True sequel, not the other wannabe sequels namely "Bloodsport 2," "Bloodsport 3," and "Bloodsport: The Dark Kumite."

It is of interest to note that Van Damme wasn't part of any of those sequels!

The actor further says:

.You know, like, we.re gonna do Bloodsport 2...which was my first movie. And I want to do it now in a very mature way, where the guy from Bloodsport is a complete bum, maybe abusing his son."

Hhhhmmmm...a darker take? A mature angle? Wow, I just may see this one If studios agree, but...

Van Damme To Resurrect Bloodsport

1 February 2009 3:15 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Hollywood hard-man Jean-claude Van Damme is to reprise his role in cult martial arts movie Bloodsport - over twenty years after its original release. The 48-year-old actor confirmed he is working on Bloodsport 2, a follow-up to the 1988 hit which launched him to stardom.

The original film, in which Van Damme's Frank Dux won a deadly fighting tournament, spawned two straight-to-video sequels - yet Van Damme was attached to neither.

And the Timecop star wants to make the new movie a deeper affair.

He tells Total Film, "You know, like, we’re gonna do Bloodsport 2, which was my first movie. And I want to do it now in a very mature way, where the guy from Bloodsport is a complete bum, maybe abusing his son." »
