Sex & Nudity

  • Gothic is a fairly sexual film with bits of nudity and brief sex scenes. throughout although not particularly graphic in nature.
  • There is a shot of a female plastic motorised mannequin which reveals its oversized plastic breasts and its painted pubic area.
  • Percy Shelley is seen naked from behind standing on a roof, his bare bum is shown.
  • A suit of armour comes to life and approaches a woman, the camera cuts to the suit of armour's waist. where it has a big penis like extension from its armour plating.
  • There is a brief orgy scene, Percy and Mary make love on a bed, the shot shows Percy from behind and nearby sitting in a chair Lord Byron has his hand on Percy's back while Claire is kneeling in front of Byron and while it is not shown it is suggested she is performing oral sex on him.
  • During a hallucination sequence Percy sees Claire sitting on a snooker table, as he looks at her naked body he sees two eyes where her nipples should be and they open and look at him.
  • Lord Byron kisses Claires breasts during sex, it is also hinted that he drinks her menstrual blood as he is seen 'going down' on her and reappearing with blood on his lips and chin.
  • Lord Byron and Percy are seen passionately kissing each other on the lips.
  • Claire is seen naked covered in mud.

Violence & Gore

  • Claire bites Lord Byron's foot, he kicks her and she lands near a fireplace, Byron then holds her hair and pushes her face towards the open fire.
  • Several character's slap each other's faces on a few occasions.
  • Doctor Polidori self-mutilates by deliberately banging his hand against a wall which has a nail sticking out.
  • Lord Byron starts to strangle Polidori with a wooden walking cane, he then hits him with the cane and kicks him in the side.
  • There is a shot of a newborn baby covered in blood.
  • There is a shot of Polidori with cockroaches and vermin pouring out of his mouth. It is implied he's committed suicide by poison.
  • There is a shot of a rotten, mummified baby's corpse.
  • There is a shot of Lord Byron covered in leeches with blood pouring from the wounds.

Profanity

  • Infrequent use of mild profanity.

  • Several characters are seen drinking alcohol during dinner.
