Mother and Child
Opens: 2010
Cast: Naomi Watts, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington
Director: Rodrigo Garcia
Summary: A tale of a mother and daughter, separated at birth, who struggle with the damage done by the most important person missing in their lives while a young African-Americn woman deals with an unwanted pregnancy and the adoption process.
Analysis: Scoring rave reviews in Toronto, the $7 million latest effort of Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her") once again shows off his skill at weaving multiple narratives together in clever and unexpected ways. At its heart it's an emotional family drama, but Garcia excels with his female characters which makes the involvement of Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and especially Annette Benning thrilling.
The few criticisms levelled at the film were toward some pacing and credibility issues in the last act, but otherwise praised it for not

Here’s a UK movie trailer and quad poster for the upcoming film “Edge of Darkness” featuring many action scenes that can be found in the movie.
Synopsis: “Edge of Darkness” is an emotionally charged thriller set at the intersection of politics and big business. Thomas Craven (Mel Gibson) is a veteran homicide detective for the Boston Police Department and a single father. When his only child, twenty-four year-old Emma (Bojana Novakovic), is murdered on the steps of his home, everyone assumes that he was the target. But he soon suspects otherwise, and embarks on a mission to find out about his daughter’s secret life and her killing. His investigation leads him into a dangerous, looking glass world of corporate cover-ups, government collusion and murder and to shadowy government operative Darius Jedburgh (Ray Winstone), who has been sent in to clean up the evidence. Craven’s solitary search for

Hippie Hippie Shake
Opens: 2010
Cast: Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Max Minghella, Emma Booth, Lee Ingleby
Director: Beeban Kidron
Summary: Follows the love story of Oz editor Richard Neville and Louise Ferrier. Neville and his cohorts launch the London edition of Oz amidst the 1960s counterculture and are subsequently put on trial for distributing a sexually explicit issue.
Analysis: One of the most troubled productions in Working Title's history, 'Hippie' began development back in 1998 but failed to get beyond script stage both in 1999 and in 2002 when "Elizabeth" helmer Shekhar Kapur was attached to direct. Filming finally got underway late 2007 with director Beeban Kidron in charge and shooting seemed to proceed without issue aside from feminist author Germaine Greer being vehemently unhappy about being depicted on film.
Actually the film scored quite a bit of free press for a skinny dipping scene where full-frontal shots of actress Sienna Miller shooting the sequence

It’s trailer day here on HeyUGuys and Edge of Darkness is one film I’m looking forward to.
Martin Campbell is a solid choice to bring this adaptation of the acclaimed BBC mini series from the 1980s up to date with heavyweight Mel GIbson and Ray Winstone. The poster was released a couple of weeks ago, and now there’s a lovely trailer to go along with it.
The synopsis is below and you can watch the trailer and make up your mind if Gibson is the equal to the original’s star, the late Bob Peck. State of Play’s big screen adaptation benefited from a worthy cast but suffered the inevitable loss of depth in the culling of the running time, I’m hopeful that Campbell’s movie won’t suffer the same fate.

We’ve previously seen a domestic trailer for Mel Gibon’s latest movie (no, not the one with him running around the street with a beaver attached to his arm!), Edge of Darkness which is in a whole different genre!
Edge of Darkness is directed by BAFTA nominee Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) and based on the BBC BAFTA award winning mini-series of the same name. Gibson leads an impressive cast including BAFTA nominee Ray Winstone (The Departed, Beowulf), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Bojana Novakovic (Drag Me To Hell). Academy Award® winner Graham King (The Departed, The Aviator) and Michael Wearing (BBC mini-series The Edge of Darkness) co-produced the film.
It’s due for release 29th January and we hope to get a review to you in the very near future. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments.

Dinner for Schmucks
Opens: July 23rd 2010
Cast: Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Zach Galifianakis, Bruce Greenwood, David Walliams
Director: Jay Roach
Summary: A renowned publisher encourages his friends to invite the most pathetic guests possible for their weekly dinner party. Just as they find the most pathetic man yet, the host is injured and ends up trapped with the man all night long.
Analysis: A remake of director Francis Veber's 1998 César award-winning "Le Diner des cons", 'Schmucks' is one of the highest profile comedies of next year with one of the strongest casts for the genre in recent memory. It also marks the return of "Austin Powers" and "Meet the Parents" helmer Jay Roach who has produced several films in recent years but hasn't directed since 2004's "Meet the Fockers".
The question now lies not in the performers or director but the material itself and whether a Gallic comedy can

New Posters for Kick-ass, Date Night, and Edge Of Darkness

Courtesy of IMPAwards, the world’s best movie poster site ever, we have three new posters for Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass, Shawn Levy’s Date Night, and Martin Campbell’s Edge of Darkness. The Kick-Ass poster feature Chloe Moretz as “Hit-Girl” and completes the set of the previously released posters. The Date Night poster is so plain that they just took an image we’ve already seen, slapped a gray background and the movie’s titled on it, and went about their business. Still, people love Steve Carell and Tina Fey so what more do you really need? And finally, the poster for Edge of Darkness tells us that few escape justice, none escape vengeance, and Mel Gibson can’t escape motion blur. [Update -- This poster was not a finalized version of the alternate poster and we have removed it at the request of the studio]
Hit the jump to check out all the posters plus a brief synopsis on each film.

Case 39
Opens: January 1st 2010
Cast: Renée Zellweger, Jodelle Ferland, Ian McShane, Bradley Cooper, Kerry O'Malley
Director: Christian Alvart
Summary: A family services social worker thinks she has seen it all until she meets her newest, most mysterious case - a troubled 10-year old girl whose parents try to kill her. The social worker decides to take her in herself until the right foster family comes along.
Analysis: Despite the presence of promising German director Christian Alvart ("Pandorum"), 'Case' has sat on a shelf since late 2006 and is finally being quietly shuffled out this year for one very good reason - it stinks. Having opened in Australia a few months back, reviewers utterly savaged the film as both incredibly dumb and utterly ludicrous. Lead star Renee Zellweger also scored personal criticism to a level rarely seen in film reviews outside of comments about Nicole Kidman's 'more alien than the

Mel Gibson Spends His ‘Summer Vacation’

Just yesterday we informed you that Mel Gibson is headed back to the director’s chair to helm a new Viking film — and judging from your comments, that’s a less than exciting proposition.
This morning, karma has seen fit to deliver you a double whammy of Gibson — not only will he be directing the untitled Viking movie, but he’ll also be returning in an acting capacity in How I Spent My Summer Vacation, based on a screenplay that Gibson himself wrote for his Apocalypto team.
In a twist that seems to reflect how strangely Gibson’s mind works, the subject material of the film is less peppy than you’d think by reading the title:
“[The film] centers on a career criminal who gets caught by Mexican authorities and is sent to a drug- and crime-filled prison, where he learns how to survive with the help of a 9-year-old boy.

Mel Gibson has signed on to direct an as-yet-untitled Viking epic, to be scripted by The Departed/Kingdom of Heaven/Body of Lies scribe William Monahan. Leonardo DiCaprio has signed on to star. Graham King, producer of Gibson’s upcoming films, Edge of Darkness and The Departed, is financing the film through his production shingle, Gk Films, partnered with Gibson’s own Icon Productions. All that is known about the story of the film is that is is a drama set in the Viking world, and that Leo will most assuredly play a Viking in the piece.
From Graham King’s lips to God’s ears:
“This will be an awe-inspiring story, created with some of the industry’s finest cinematic talent and I am just over the moon to be making this film with Mel, Leo and Bill.”

Say what you will about Mel Gibson’s personal behavior at times, but the man’s got a serious work ethic. Along with signing on to direct a Viking drama featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Gibson will write and star in How I Spent My Summer Vacation, a prison actioner to be financed by the actor’s Icon Productions.
According to Variety, Summer Vacation will center around a career criminal who gets caught by Mexican law enforcement authorities and sentenced to a drug and crime-filled prison. There, the character learns how to survive with the help of a 9-year-old boy.
This will be Gibson’s first screenplay since Apocalypto, and although he has an Oscar under his belt for helming 1995’s Braveheart, Summer Vacation will be directed by Adrian Grunberg, who served as first assistant director on Gibson’s Mayan adventure film. Stacy Perskie, who was second assistant director on Apocalypto, is set to produce.

Gibson And DiCaprio Possibly Teaming For Viking Movie

According to Variety, the movie likely to be Mel Gibson’s next directorial effort will be a viking story, written by William Monahan (The Departed, Kingdom of Heaven), and starring once and future heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio. It’s really early in the process to be saying this – as Gibson is finishing up The Beaver with Jodie Foster, and DiCaprio just finished principal photography on Christopher Nolan’s Inception – but I got pretty excited when I read the headline to the story.
Of course, I initially had hoped that maybe Gibson was going to star in the movie as well, but he’s done well enough with the period movies where he was just behind the camera (Apocalypto). Monahan, has been on a steady role since breaking in, with KoH being his first credited feature writing gig. He also scripted the soon to be released Martin Campbell, Mel Gibson starring movie Edge of Darkness.

Variety's Mike Fleming has just posted a casting article worth repeating saying Mel Gibson will direct Leonardo DiCaprio in an untitled period drama set in the world of Viking culture. The Departed's William Monahan is writing the script with shooting expected to begin fall 2010.
Graham King will produce with Gibson and Tim Headington in a co-production between King's Gk Films and Gibson's Icon Productions. "This will be an awe-inspiring story, created with some of the industry's finest cinematic talent and I am just over the moon to be making this film with Mel, Leo and Bill," King told Variety.
DiCaprio has been linked to several roles since signing on and recently completing Christopher Nolan's Inception, which hits theaters July 16, 2010. In fact, IMDb has him attached to 30 upcoming films as either an actor, a producer or both including Brave New World with Ridley Scott, The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt

‘Edge of Darkness UK Poster

Mel Gibson is back! It’s his first leading man performance since…bloody hell, when was it? (Signs in 2002). There was a cameo appearance in ‘The Singing Detective’, but nothing since. Meantime, the only cameras he has appeared in front of were paparazzi and Lapd ones. This past decade has been one of major ups and downs for Aussie/American superstar. There was the “sugar tits” incident, the divorce, the mid-life crisis partying, the amazing ‘Apocalypto’ and now he’s back to acting in films.
Edge of Darkness is the film version of the classic 1985 television drama. Good news is, it has retained its original director Martin Campbell. The story is centred around a man attempting to discover the murderer of his daughter, which then leads into intrigue and grander things.
This new poster looks pretty ace and gives the impression this is going to be a tough thriller. Look how moody Mel looks!

It’s poster day here at HeyUGuys. This time Empire have the scoop on the Mel Gibson fronted remake of the stupendous BBC series Edge of Darkness, and he is looking decidedly annoyed.
He is also half hidden in darkness, the designers taking the title literally – we should be happy that the Sex and the City poster designers weren’t so literal.
It’s been a while since Gibson has taken a prominent role and Martin Campbell’s big screen take on the 1985 series should provide a suitable downward spiral of moral corruption and labyrinthine conspiracy for Gibson to show us his acting chops are still capable of drawing the crowds.
You can check the poster below, or head to Empire for the original.
