Arriving in theaters today is Happy Death Day, the latest from filmmaker Christopher Landon that follows a young woman (Jessica Rothe) who must live out her own demise again and again in hopes of unlocking the puzzle to her untimely death. Landon, who has been at the helm of some great genre films like Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones and Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, delivers yet another unique cinematic experience with his latest effort.
Daily Dead spoke with Landon at the recent press day for Happy Death Day, where he discussed bringing this project to Jason Blum and Blumhouse Productions and collaborating with them on the horror comedy. Landon also chatted about the challenges they faced during production, as well as his thoughts on working closely with Rothe on her unusual character.
Great to speak with you, Chris. Let’s start off by discussing this script and what you saw in it originally.

Those who’ve been to a live studio taping know how exhausting they are. To sit in the audience, you need to show up five hours before the taping. You get a number and are told to leave and come back an hour before. Then, the interns line everybody up according to their number and shuffle the audience inside. The actual taping isn’t short, either. It takes about three to five hours, depending on the show. It’s a full day experience, and not necessarily too pleasant when you don’t expect to win anything.
So why did Ted Slauson, a math teacher from Texas, attend “The Price Is Right” 37 times? Well, he didn’t do it because he liked to spend his Mondays waiting around in a cold studio.

Keeping track of every original film and series coming to Netflix was already a challenging and mind-melting task before the streaming giant decided to start directly producing content outside of the United States. Ice Age: Collision Course Could Have Been Meatier But Instead It Crashes HardIt’s time to put this animated series on the extinct species list.
Five movies in, the Ice Age franchise has clearly run out of ideas. The latest installment, Ice Age: Collision Course, actually recycles a whole sequence formerly released as a separate short film titled Cosmic Scrat-tastrophe, which played ahead of last fall’s The Peanuts Movie. That same sequence was then reused as a teaser trailer for the new Ice Age sequel back in December.
Now, following some Cosmos-parodying voiceover from Neil deGrasse Tyson, the outer-space-set sequence opens the new feature, and the rehashing is a terrible way to start off. For adult fans of the animated series, anyway. Small children will likely appreciate the familiar beginning, just as they appreciate watching the other four Ice Age movies over and over and over.

Part of LG’s family of ultrawide monitors, the 34UC98 model is a fast, reliable fit for all aspects of post-production. For editors, the 21:9 display screen (34′ diagonally) provides plenty of organizational room, eliminating the need for multiple monitors. Keeping track of everything becomes easier with the monitor’s LG Screen Split options, which allows control over resizing and displaying windows, as well as offering 14 different options for picture-in-picture display. An sRGB display of over 99% provides accurate color display for the post-production process. That process can begin quickly, since two Thunderbolt input/output ports allow movement of about 20 gegabits per second […]...

In 2012, then 16-year-old Gabrielle Douglas charmed the world and broke barriers by winning the USA team and individual all-around gymnastics gold medals at the Summer Olympics in London. In the years since, her million-dollar smile has turned into a multimillion-dollar empire, and Gabby has enlisted the help of her close-knit family — mother Natalie Hawkins, sisters Arielle “Arie” Hawkins and Joyelle “Joy” Douglas, brother Johnathan Douglas, and grandmother Miss Carolyn Ford — in running her business. After stepping away from gymnastics for a few years, the now 20-year-old has returned to the sport with her laser focus set on … Continue reading →

Technology plays an important role on The Middle this week with the unlikeliest of characters using it to their advantage. Seriously, who would have thought Frankie and Mike would own smartphones, let alone understand them enough to track their kids’ locations? That’s exactly what happens when Sue and Axl are home for the summer and staying out all night. It’s weird enough Axl is being so nice to Sue, inviting her to all these house parties, but it’s even weirder that Frankie notices and cares when they are still out at 2am. Part of me wishes Sue wasn’t going to

Keeping track of who’s who in this superhero multipack poses a challenge, but the screenplay packs a powerful punch
With his propaganda-poster jawline and air of unimpeachable nobility, Captain America (Chris Evans) has always been one of the duller members of the Marvel universe. Which is probably why, although this latest Avengers outing bears his name, the film-makers have press-ganged (almost) every spare ounce of Marvel muscle to back him up. The Hulk-sized gap in the lineup is filled by an engagingly geeky Spider-Man (Tom Holland, a promising taster for the stand-alone Spider-Movie next year). And while memorising who is in which of the colour-coded, armour-plated exoskeletons (and who is punching who in the head) can be challenging, the sheer force of so much superpowered personality on screen makes for a blast of a movie.

It's the moment we've all been waiting for, Bachelor nation: the Fantasy Suite dates. On Monday's episode, Ben invited the final three women in the running on overnight dates in Jamaica - which, surprise, surprise, Ben thinks "could be a great place to fall in love." Remember when he also said this about Las Vegas? (Just teasing, Ben. We still love you. Especially in that pink shirt.) The dates were exotic, over-the-top and romantic - like, so romantic that the Bachelor dropped the "L" word on not one, but two of the women for the first time in the franchise's history.

Keeping track of Thrones characters has always been a tricky affair. The world has changed beyond recognition since the beginning of the show, with the vast majority of the original cast dead and buried, but there’s still a huge world to rein in, and it’s important that each major player of the game gets a chance to shine.
The amount of side-characters, one-off no hopers, and lumbering bags of meat and blood is truly enormous, though they’re all mainly used as walking-talking target practice. Forget about the pawns, your attention needs to be directed straight at the major pieces, although some of the top figures in Game Of Thrones could still be put to better use.
Some characters have been suffocated under the quantity of side-shows, others have been completely anonymous, while a few have been poorly interpreted from the books. It’s certainly a case...

But those changes aren't by chances — he's taking a stab at a new dramatic role in Netflix's newest original series, "Flaked." The upcoming dramedy tells the story of Chip (Arnett), a conceited former alcoholic who's pining for the same woman as his own best friend. What's it like to kiss several women in a single evening? The Bachelor's Ben Higgins certainly knows a thing or two (or five) about it.
"Well, I mean, honestly it's kind of an interesting part of doing the experience, because you are kissing multiple people in one night," Higgins, 27, said on Tuesday's The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "And I'll never say I haven't done that – it's documented now. But it does kind of mess with your mind sometimes. Because you're with somebody and you enjoy that moment – and you get up and you walk to the next and it makes you feel really weird.

I knew this was going to move fast, but I don't think I ever thought it would be this fast. Both in terms of the feelings I was having already, but as you saw, also with the drama and conflict with the women in the house.

It's week 4 on The Bachelor, which means it's time to take these ladies out of the Malibu mansion before they lose their minds. Only the show brings them to Las Vegas, which Ben will try his hardest to convince us is a city "people do find love." (A debatable claim, unless you're Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher.)
Before we get started on the dates, can we just take a quick second to address the girls' reaction to the light-up billboard with the message from Ben? In case you missed it – hold on to your hearts here, ladies – it read this: Ladies,...

Wow. Didn't I tell you this was going to be a wild week?! I don't even know where to begin. But like I said before, when I don't know it's usually just best to dive right in so here goes nothing.
I feel like the thing that stood...

It's week three on The Bachelor and things are getting very interesting.
If you thought Olivia was the only woman creating some major drama, think again. This week, Jubilee found herself face-to-face with one very angry group of women – and she wasn't having any of it. (That being said, don't count Olivia out just yet – she apparently spent $40,000 on clothes for the show, so you know she means business). Let's begin.
The Sky's the Limit on Ben's One-on-One with Lauren B.:Lauren B. got the first one-on-one date of the episode, and to be honest, it was pretty spectacular.

Video: The Bachelor's Ben Higgins and Jubilee Find Out They Caviaren't a Match When It Comes to Food
Caviar lovers, close your eyes for this one.
In an exclusive sneak peek at Monday's episode of The Bachelor, Ben Higgins's potential future wife Jubilee gets a little, ahem, salty after tasting the delicacy for the first time. In fact, she hates it so much she ends up spitting it out right in the middle of a romantic date!
The clip opens with Ben and Jubilee, a war veteran, approaching a delicious-looking spread. Everything seems to be going well until they decide to feed each other blinis topped with caviar.
"That's really good," Ben says.

Finding an agent is one thing; finding the right one for your career is another. Keeping track of who’s who on social media is a good way to get a sense for what kind of support they offer talent, in addition to casting and networking opportunities. And who doesn’t love learning the new random fact every now and again? The granddaddy of Texas talent agents is surely Dallas’ 50-year-old Kim Dawson Agency, which sponsors an annual talent search and actively posts shots of its clients and links to their work. Houston-based Neal Hamil Agency was a fairly early adopter of Twitter (since 2009), and usually updates its feed multiple times a day. Twelve-year-old Core Talent Agency in Dallas adds daily updates and links to Facebook, and more recently, Twitter. It’s also a good way to know when the agency holds its regular industry networking mixers. Their past commercial credits include Disney,...

You'd need superpowers of your own to keep up with the non-step revelations and character connections in Heroes Reborn...
This review contains spoilers.
1.8 June 13th Part Two
While last week’s instalment of June 13th was impressive for the most part, a lot of time was spent putting the events of the series into context and moving the various pieces of the show into position ready for Heroes Reborn’s final act. Anyone expecting part two to be the pay-off to last week’s set-up will be left disappointed however, as this week’s outing continues in much the same vein of relentlessly rapid story progression.
Once again, the revelations are non-stop and with time-travel shenanigans at the core of the episode, patching everything together is quite the mental workout. Keeping track of each character connection and timeline alteration after only one viewing would surely require the...
