Strange.

Warning: Spoilers
Yes, there was some cool scenery, but whats the point? I saw this film at a jam session between the bands Foxhole, Anathallo and Saxon Shore, and why was this film ever made? I'm not sure if it was the same film or not, but after, they showed one about a little wooden Indian in a carved canoe, and where it went when a kid floated it down a river. I don't understand these films at all. If someone would care to explain them to me, meaning, why would anyone waste their time making this film, please do.

It says this comment needs ten lines.

This makes it long enough, I hope.

Soar Like a Bird
jimderrick20 March 2004
This is an Oscar-winning short with an unusual and unexpected ending. Even without the ending, it is a film worth watching. I find it very similar to the scenes in "To Fly!" (1976) where a man soars in a balloon over the countryside of the Eastern U.S. However, in Up, you are soaring over the Western U.S. using a different and more modern means of transport. The views are those that you simply cannot get from ground level allow you to float like a very high-flying butterfly or, more appropriately, a high flying bird. I recommend this movie for its scenic views, although the ending can be a basis for discussion. Pyramid Media offers this for sale and rent. Unlike many of the films they distribute, this one has a somewhat reasonable price.

Review of Oscar winning short film "Up" (1984)

Warning: Spoilers
I've only seen this film once, in late 1985. Please keep in mind that 17+ years have passed since then! I believe my recollections are accurate.

The film has no plot, and I hope my comments won't be construed as a 'spoiler'.

It was aired on Cinemax. The film has no dialogue that I can recall. Basically, the film is nothing more than a delta-wing hang-glider flight in what appears to be Monument Valley in southern Utah, ending with a landing on a tall, flat-topped rock tower no more than 50 feet across. The imagery is stunning, and the sound-track music was, I believe, of the new age genre. Total run time is probably between 18 and 25 minutes.

If anyone has information on where I might find a copy of this film, I would appreciate an email. DVD is preferred, but a video tape would be great too.

Fascinating Flying
netedtec25 June 2009
I really enjoyed seeing this movie and I plan to purchase it. This is a film that shows some incredible flying and wonderful scenery. It is only 14 minutes long so even non pilots can manage to stay interested. Keep in mind that the aircraft shown is much more primitive than modern hang gliders. If you are a pilot, especially if you fly unpowered aircraft, you will be amazed at the capabilities of the pilot. If you are interested in the history of unpowered aircraft you will enjoy this film. If you do not fly but enjoy outdoor adventure you might still enjoy the movie. If you do not fly, are not interested in unpowered aircraft, and are not interested in outdoor adventure, I am sorry for you.
