American film and TV actor Arnold Stang has died at the age of 91.
Stang passed away on Sunday in Newton, Massachusetts, after a battle with pneumonia.
He enjoyed a long career in radio, film and television, starring as Frank Sinatra's sidekick in 1955 drama The Man With the Golden Arm, co-starring with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the action man's first feature film, 1970's Hercules in New York, and 1963 comedy It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.
Stang also became known for voicing numerous cartoon characters, including Nurtle the Turtle in the 1965 film Pinocchio in Outer Space and 1960s animated U.S. TV series Top Cat, as the series' main character, T.C.
He made the transition to Broadway too, appearing on the New York stage three times, most recently in the 1969 revival of The Front Page.
Other guest appearances include TV spots in Bonanza, Batman and The Cosby show, and as a regular on The Goldbergs, a long-running 1950s family series.
Stang is survived by his wife, JoAnne, son David, daughter Deborah, and two granddaughters.

I'm always amazed at how people haven't learned from TV history. Back in the early eighties, everyone and his mother was saying that comedy was dead, mainly because of then-cutting-edge dramas like Hill Street Blues were dominating the air, while the best in comedy that the networks could come up was crap like Pink Lady and Jeff. Then The Cosby Show, Cheers, Family Ties, and Night Court came around, and all of a sudden comedy was back.
So it's not a big surprise that comedy is making a big comeback a quarter-century later. Times are tough, and people want to laugh. It also helps that on a few networks (NBC, of course), low ratings and little inventory have given shows like The Office and 30 Rock a chance to find and grow an audience. The seeds sewn by those shows have grown in a major way, as three of the four

Blu-Ray Review: Underrated ‘Angel Heart’ With Mickey Rourke, Robert De Niro

Chicago – Some movies from my youth have not aged as well as memory would have me believe. We’ve all been there. A movie we thought was great when we were a teenager looks downright awful with the passage of time. I was worried that my memory of Alan Parker’s “Angel Heart” was through similar rose-colored glasses. Worry not. “Angel Heart” is even better than you remember.
Blu-Ray Rating: 4.0/5.0
Featuring Mickey Rourke in his absolute prime, Robert De Niro when he was still a master of the form, and masterful direction by Alan Parker, “Angel Heart” is a fantastic modern noir, a film of which the overall quality was overshadowed by the scandal surrounding the sexy performance by Lisa Bonet (when she was supposed to be giving off a family image on the hit “The Cosby Show”). Rourke plays a down-and-out Brooklyn detective named Harry Angel who is hired

Andy from "Family Ties" Behind Bars

Anyone who watched "Family Ties" back in the day probably could have predicted that if any member of the Keaton Family was going to wind up in trouble, it would be little Andy. After all, he wasn't really a necessary element to the otherwise well crafted show, and as far as adorable kid actors went, he didn't hold a candle to Rudy from "The Cosby Show" or Ricky Schroder on "Silver Spoons." And now 27 years later, Brian Bonsall has fulfilled that prophecy. Grown up Andy (now with a butterfly tattoo on his throat), was arrested last night for hitting his friend Michael Trujillo with a broken bar stool. The police report allegedly states, "Bonsall then said that he and Trujillo both are bipolar and like drugs," according to the report. Sounds like a deadly concoction for a washed up child star. Sha la la la. Read the full story here.

Precious, the story of an obese and abused black teenager, is the year's most reviled as well as praised film in America. But director Lee Daniels is used to trouble, he tells Gaby Wood. He grew up gay on the streets of Philadelphia, after all, and is drawn to the most disturbing truths. That'll be why he's heading to America's Deep South for his next film…
For the past month, one particular actress has filled American movie screens and visited American minds. She is obese and very dark-skinned, and the character she plays – a 16-year-old illiterate girl from Harlem who is abused by her mother and pregnant by her father for the second time – has been dealt one of the worst hands society has to offer. Yet what's most often said about Gabourey Sidibe – in this Aniston-adoring, holiday-spirited culture – is none of those things. It's that she is completely wonderful,

Last night's 30 Rock reminded us of the importance of family, clued us in that the property of urine that makes flowers grow, and taught us all some valuable lessons about rules in Italy. Here are the 10 best lines from "Sun Tea."

Episode: "Sun Tea" (Season Four, Episode 6)
Synopsis: Jack, disgusted at a rift in the Geiss family, vows to get a vasectomy so as to never have kids and convinces Tracy, who's frustrated at his son Tracy Jr. (Bobb'e Thompson), to do the same. Liz wants to purchase the bigger, two-bedroom apartment above her when rent in her building goes up, but must first drive out the affable tenant who's firmly entrenched there. In honor of green week, Kenneth is given the task to reduce Tgs's carbon footprint by 5%.
Review: I remember reading an article a little over a year ago entitled "30 Ways to Fix 30 Rock." The fact that there was an article presupposing that something about the Emmy, WGA and SAG-award winning comedy was broken struck me as absurd, but it did manage to touch on one point with which I had to concur: the show couldn't always rely on Jack Donaghy to be its saving grace

And representing his top-rated sitcom "The Cosby Show" were Phylicia Rashad and Malcolm-Jamal Warner. Beginning with Richard Pryor in 1998, the Kennedy Center has saluted "people who have had an impact on American society in ways similar to the distinguished 19th century novelist and essayist." TV vet Carl Reiner – who received this prize in 1999 – is credited with introducing Bill Cosby to TV audiences in 1962. Bill

Bill Cosby accepted the vaunted Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at Lincoln Center last night, complete with two hours of highlights from the 72-year-old's career: his standup on The Jack Paar Show, his breakthrough role on I Spy, and of course, The Cosby Show, among others. In accepting honor, and joining the likes of previous winners Richard Pryor and George Carlin, it marked a relaxing of Cosby's own strict standards: He'd turned down the honor twice before because of objections to the profanity-laced ceremony, the prize's first, for Pryor in 1998. ("Too much foul mouth," he said. "Too much N-word.

Given that when the 72-year-old took to the stage at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall he immediately took a seat, it could be said that Bill Cosby no longer does stand-up comedy. At that age, Cosby said, "when you stand up, people clap."
His advancing years were a big facet of Cosby's act -- his two-hour set found him talking about cataract surgery, colonoscopies, grandchildren, and urinary flow issues -- as was the manner with which he strung them all together. Cosby designed his set like an intricate series of nested non-sequiteurs: Telling stories buried within stories, Cosby comes across like the good-natured,

This week marks the 25th anniversary of the premiere episode of The Cosby Show. Here's the famous scene from the episode where Cliff explains to son Theo about the realities of living on your own and not going to college. This was an instant classic, because Cliff's reaction to Theo's speech about being a "regular person" wasn't expected, especially by an audience that had just clapped at what Theo had said.

If you look at the network schedules of today, you won't find nearly as many sitcoms as you could several years ago. The CW network doesn't even have any and has actually declared that they're out of the half-hour comedy business. Some critics will tell you that the sitcom genre is dying though history shows us that TV trends run in cycles.
Exactly 25 years ago, many people were also declaring the sitcom dead. That all changed when a little show called The Cosby Show debuted on September 20, 1984. The series, starring Phylicia Rashasd, Lisa Bonet, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Tempestt Beldsoe, and Keshia Knight-Pulliam, became an immediate smash hit for NBC. It helped to save the network and began their ratings dominance of Thursday nights that lasted for many, many years.
