  • SPOILER: The story "The Red-Headed League" was heavily reworked in the television version to serve as a lead-in to "The Final Problem". In the original story, Moriarty doesn't figure at all and Mr. Merriweather, far from being in on the plot to steal his own bank's deposit of French gold, is merely a put-upon bank manager who was being deprived of his weekly game of whist to aid Holmes in capturing the gang of thieves.
