New to Me: Twilight Zone: The Movie

I'd seen enough episodes of "The Twilight Zone" as a kid to get the gist of it - bite-sized morality tales that always came with a twist and often gave me the willies. However, I hadn't caught up with 1983's Twilight Zone: The Movie until just last night.
Now, I was looking for pictures to go along with my reaction when it became apparent that our own Eric D. Snider had already written about the movie at length two years back. Never content with just keeping my thoughts to myself, I've decided to instead streamline them into a nice, no-nonsense list of bullet points past the jump...

50 Influential Scream Queens: Part 2

Before I launch into the conclusion of my 50 Influential Scream Queens (read part 1 here), please let me remind you that this list is based upon my personal taste, and my personal taste alone. I didn't poll 100 Fango readers, the Fango staff or any other form of 'industry professionals'. It's all opinion, so if you feel I've wronged a certain actress by excluding them from the list, don't leap to brand the entire Fango crew 'vile'. I probably just don't personally find their work to be that influential. Either that or I'm just ignorant to their accomplishments!
25. Mia Farrow: Mia's genre work may be a bit limited, but that doesn't change the fact that Rosemary's Baby will forever be regarded as one of the creepiest films in history. Farrow's portrayal of Rosemary Woodhouse is harrowing to say the least, and will always remain (in my mind) one of the best performances the genre has seen.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Trick ‘r Treat’ is Shockingly Tasty Horror Anthology

Chicago – From producer Bryan Singer (“X-Men,” “Superman Returns”), “Trick ‘r Treat” is a fantastic horror anthology film that has inexplicably been rolling around the Warner Bros. offices for years, having initially been scheduled for release back in 2007. Finally getting a Halloween-tied Blu-Ray release, this is one of the best straight-to-dvd horror flicks in years, a consistently clever and enjoyable genre entry that will have horror fans screaming in glee this holiday season.
Blu-Ray Rating: 4.0/5.0
I will never understand why junk like “The Stepfather” and “Saw VI” get national, heavily-marketed releases but something like “Trick ‘r Treat,” which has won festival awards and been buzzed about since it first started screening, won’t be playing on a screen near you this Halloween. This is one messed-up genre. I think if WB had found a way to market this film, especially with the star power of Anna Paquin coming off “True Blood,

We recently published Glenn Kay's interview with Joe Dante discussing the full details on his upcoming film The Hole (read it here). Now, Jason Anders caught up with the director to go back even further. All the way back to 1978, and the recently remade Piranha...
Jason Anders/Fangoria: Let's start with one of your earliest films, 1978's Piranha; what originally inspired you to become involved in filmmaking, and what roads led to you directing one of your first motion pictures, which garnered the respect of major Hollywood names like Steven Spielberg? Also, tell me about the challenges you faced on the production of this film, which was shot in just 30 days.
Joe Dante: I had originally planned to become a cartoonist; it was only during art school that I came to realize I was more inclined toward filmmaking. This was the mid-'60s when the idea of "film school

Observe & Report
Also known as the slightly smarter version of Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Observe & Report stars likeable Seth Rogan as Ronnie, an obsessive mall security guard that dreams of being a cop. It’s actually quite funny and has some great set pieces.
Rogan is a great comedic actor and this is his show. Worth watching, you might be pleasantly surprised.
Also available in Blu-Ray
Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past
Matthew McConaughey has made a career out of playing smug bachelors recently and he continues the trend with this latest rom-com. He plays Connor Mead who, while attending his brothers wedding is reminded of his past conquests. It’s predictable stuff but passable enough. It boasts an impressive supporting cast led by Jennifer Garner and Michael Douglas and it’s directed by Mark Waters who also helmed Mean Girls. It’s light, fluffy and will give fans of rom-coms exactly what they want.

First things first: it could be as long as a year before Joe Dante’s newest feature, The Hole, is released theatrically in North America. Those who are disappointed to hear this news should take solace in the following statement: it will be well worth the wait.
Produced independently by Bold Films and screened for potential distributors in Toronto and Venice (where it won the first ever prize for Best 3D film, beating out such prestigious competitors as Disney/Pixar’s Up), director Dante even expressed some apprehension about interviews and promoting the movie this early. His concern was that by the time The Hole would be finally unleashed on audiences, some might believe that the movie was old and had already been released (hope he doesn’t mind this review). However, with proper marketing, this title should prove more than successful and, like many of the director’s previous titles,

Louis Leterrier, the director behind The Incredible Hulk, has shared some interesting thoughts on the future of Marvel's superhero movies.
Topics covered in his latest interview include his Hulk film and any possible sequel, his interest in revamping the Fantastic Four and his vision for splitting the Avengers movie into four parts to be released over the summer of 2012.
Leterrier first addressed a question over whether he would be doing a follow-up to his Incredible Hulk, saying: "Well, so far, no. I am contracted to do one more film with Marvel so when I'm done here with this I will go back to say to them, 'Guys you need me? Is there something I can do?'"
Hulk is set to appear, in some capacity, in the Avengers and then there may be a Hulk sequel. But that's a long way off and with The Incredible Hulk being met with

'The Twlight Zone' Returns To The Big Screen And These Are The Episodes We Want!

Word emerged yesterday that Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way would join with Warner Bros. to produce an all new silver screen version of "The Twlight Zone." Rod Serling's classic sci-fi/fantasy/horror TV series ended in 1964, but it has seen a number of TV revivals since then. The only feature-length adaptation came in 1983, a multi-part, multi-director effort with contributions from the likes of Steven Spielberg, Joe Dante, George Miller and John Landis.
All we know about the coming "Twilight Zone" return so far is that the aim is to produce a continuous story based on any number of classic series plotlines. Quite a different approach from the 1983 version's discrete vignettes, but it's good to know that Serling's original stories will be serviced. The question is, which would be best for the coming movie? Keep reading for my own suggestions. And beware... spoilers ahead.

Warner Bros. and Leonardo DiCaprio's production company Appian Way are developing a new Twilight Zone movie, hiring Rand Ravich to write a screenplay based on the classic TV series, combining fantasy, science-fiction and horror elements.
Ravich previously directed the feature The Astronaut's Wife and executive produced Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Warner Bros have hired screenwriter Rand Ravich for their proposed new Twilight Zone movie based on the iconic TV series.
Ravich created NBC detective series Life; wrote and directed the 1999 sci-fi thriller The Astronaut's Wife starring Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron; and executive-produced Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

The Twilight Zone was last seen on the big screen in 1983 with Twilight Zone: The Movie. Steven Spielberg and John Landis co-produced the film and directed some of the segments, with George Miller stepping in to direct John Lithgow in the famous "creature on the wing" segment.

Rand Ravich Will Write the New 'Twilight Zone'

You might have caught the news last year in one of our quick write-ups -- Warner Brothers and Leonardo DiCaprio's production company had grabbed Twilight Zone to stretch into a feature-length movie. It's taken a year, but they've finally got a writer on-board. Variety reports that Rand Ravich, the pen behind The Astronaut's Wife and NBC's Life, will write a script for the adaptation. This won't be an episodic tale, like Twilight Zone: The Movie was all those years ago. How it will turn out, however, is anyone's guess.
The show certainly covered enough themes that this could make for a wonderful film if it's done well. Fantasy, horror, science fiction... It's got all the tropes that put the bodies in the seats. Trying to steer clear of the '80s film, however, I would imagine that this would be a fresh story, and not simply the remake of episodes.

Screenwriter Rand Ravich has been hired to write a new Twilight Zone movie for Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production company.
Ravich is the creator behind the NBC drama series Life as well as the screenwriter of The Astronaut's Wife starring Charlize Theon and Johnny Depp and 1995's Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh. The hiring of Rand is the first major new development since Appian Way started to work on a new Twilight Zone movie one year ago. It's not yet known what Ravich has in mind for the new Zone's story, if it will be a collection of multiple stories or a single storyline that spans the film.
DiCaprio's Twilight Zone is the second time that a feature film has been made from Rod Serling's classic television series from the 1950s-60s. The first Twilight Zone movie came out in 1983 and featured four segments directed by John Landis

Warner Brothers, Leonardo DiCaprio and his year-old production company, Appian Way, have forged a deal with Rand Ravich to write a new reincarnation of Rod Serling's Twilight Zone, once again for the big screen.
Following the format of the previous big screen adaption, Twilight Zone: The Movie, also produced by Warner Brothers in 1983, with a prologue directed by Peter Landis, the latest itineration will also be anthology based.
The original Twilight Zone, created and hosted by Rod Serling, ran on broadcast television and has been honored as the precursor to today's science fiction meets horror meets psychological drama genre so popular on television and in the movies today.
We can only hope this production will be successful without the aura of death that surrounded the original Twilight Zone: The Movie.
