- The UK cinema version was cut by 7 secs by the BBFC to edit closeup scenes of Overman's mutilated body and to remove a shot of a sea worm emerging from his mouth. The cuts were restored in the video version and the certificate upgraded to a '15' ('12' for the DVD release).
- Two-dimensional VHS, LaserDisc and TV versions used an alternate opening credit, entitling the movie "JAWS III" rather than "JAWS 3-D" for obvious reasons (although the animated graphic remained identical, with the words swooping out toward the camera). Later 2D disc releases, for instance the Blu-ray version, were mastered straight from a 3D print and use the original "JAWS 3-D" title.
- For the films UK TV premiere on ITV in January 1987 all shots of Overman's decomposing corpse were completely removed. When the corpse first appears in the window of the underwater tunnel, it quickly cuts away before it is seen. The subsequent shot of the girl pressed against the window screaming is removed as well. In the following scene where they are examining the corpse on a table, Mike Brody removes the sheet and it quickly cuts to next scene. This version is different to the cut BBFC PG certificate cinema release as in that version shots were simply reduced in this one we do not see the corpse at all.
- In its 1988 broadcasting on CBS, the film removes the profanity along with some of the shark violence. In addition, the sharks teeth at the end, was also edited.
- Originally released in 3D.
- Released in Japan in 3-D on the short-lived VHD format. This release has been widely copied to make bootleg 3-D tapes and DVDs.
