- Isabel: Good morning. This is Isabel broadcasting from the new Phoenix Regazza Radio station. I'd like to open up with a statement on behalf of Adalede Norris and the Women's Army. Her murder serves as a warning for women everywhere for the struggle we face. And the truth will be heard and the story must and shall be told. It is not only the story of women's oppression, it is the story of sexism, racism, bigotry, nationalism, false religion and the blasphemy of the state controlled church, the story of environmental poisoning and nuclear warfare. Of the powerful over the powerless, for the sake of sick and depraved manipulations that abuse and corner the human soul like a rat in a cage. It is all of our responsibilities as individuals and together to examine and to re-examine everything, leaving no stones unturned. Every word that we utter, every action and every thought. We are all, women and men, the prophets of this new age. And for those of us who would be safer in the sensibilities of racism, seperatism and martyrdom: if you can't help us towards building this living church, then step out of the way. The scope and capabilities of human love are as wide and encompassing as this vast universe that we all swirl in. One for all, and all for one-ness. This fight will not end in terrorism and violence. It will not end in a nuclear holocaust. It begins in the celebration of the rites of alchemy. The transformation of shit into gold. The illumination of dark chaotic night into light. This is the time of sweet, sweet change for us all. This is Isabel from Phoenix Regazza Radio, signing off until tomorrow.
- Zella: You have a right to violence. All depressed people have a right to violence. And I want to tell you something, its like the right to pee. You got to have the right place. You got to have the right time. You got to have the appropriate situation. And I'm absolutely convinced that this is it!
- TV Newscaster: Police have been puzzled in the last week by what they describe as well-organized bands of 15 to 20 women on bicycles attacking men on the street. While the victims have claimed that these incidents were unprovoked, eyewitness reports have led investigators to believe that these men may themselves have been attempting to assault women. However, officials have condemned the lawlessness of such vigilante groups and asked for information leading to the arrests of the women involved.
- [smiles smugly]
- TV Newscaster: Maybe even their telephone numbers. We'll have more information on the 11 O'Clock report. Now here's Linda with the weather.
- Honey: We are the children of the light and we will continue to fight. Not against the flesh and blood; but, against the system that names itself falsely. For we have stood on the promises far too long now. That we can all be equal - under the cover of a social democracy. Where the rich get richer and the poor just wade in their dreams.
- Zella: They always talk about unity. We need unity. Unity. But, I always say, if you were the army and the school and the head of the health institutions and the head of the government, which would you - and all of you had guns - which would you rather see come through the door? One lion, unified, or 500 mice? And my answer is: 500 mice can do a lot of damage and disruption.
- TV Newscaster: Labor's abandonment of the old Democratic Party is considered by many the cornerstone of today's liberation.
- [first lines]
- TV Newscaster: This week in celebration, commemorating the tenth anniversary of the war of liberation, is a time when all New Yorkers take pride in remembering the most peaceful revolution the world has known.
- Honey: We are all here because we have fought in the wars of liberation - and we all bear witness to what has happened since the war. We still see the depression from the oppression that still exists - both day and night.
- Mayor Zubrinsky: I am pleased, proud, and grateful to you all, for affording this city the opportunity to share in that which is the tenth anniversary of the war of liberation. The anniversary which heralds our society as being the very first true socialist democracy the world has ever known. Ours has been the greatest cultural revolution of all time, through which we have wed democracy with its respect of freedom and individualism and is abhorrent of all forms of communism and fascism, coupled with a moral and ethical humanism of American socialism.
- Isabel: How does one illuminate, A dark and lonely sky, There's only one thing left to do, You got to ram at the darkness with your rhyme. Ryhme, chime, stop on a dime, My love is yours and your love is mine, Kick the stops out...
- FBI Agent: We're not even sure how the organization is structured. All we know is they're starting to appeal to women who would have written them off as lunatics a couple of years ago.
- Newspaper Editor: We regret that many of the construction and steel workers laid off in the past few weeks have been the women - hired only last year. The industries been overburdened recently by the enormous number of minority workers who are applying for a limited number of jobs.
- Honey: We are here ready to deal with every lie that holds women responsible for rape and prostitution. The lies that hold our sisters of the street responsible for the harassment of all women on the street. The lies that push women into the street as quickly as they force us out of the work place.
- Newspaper Editor: Any move towards separatism - the demand for equal rights for one group alone - hurts our struggle for the equal advancement of all parts of society.
- Isabel: Our government is going to flood those areas with the best smack imaginable. And its gonna send everybody into a deep, narcotics sleep where they will not weep or cry out anymore.
- Isabel: There seems to be some very peculiar things happening these days. Angry, unemployed people are rioting in the streets - and the city's on fire with their rage. Now, what do you think the government plans to do about this situation, besides beatin' 'em over the head with billy clubs? Do they plan to supply them with jobs? With training programs? Or, with decent housing? Nah. You know what they're gonna do? The same bloody tactic they pulled before the revolution. Remember, and I'm here to warn you, its gonna happen again.
- Adelaide Norris: The way my mother brought us up, there were eight of us, and she took care of us through her domestic work - all by herself. And abortions - she didn't even think about abortions. And day care? We took care of ourselves. No one took care of us. And there are plenty of women nowadays livin' in that same manner. Black women. Latin women. *Young* women - livin' in that same life style.
- Newspaper Editor: Statistics will show you that the percentage of rape and prostitution at this point is significantly lower than it was pre-revolutionary society and that obviously is an advancement step forward. It's impossible to talk about the complete, you know, abolition.
- Adelaide Norris: I don't understand how you as women consider that women's grievances is separatist. You can't even see how it is affecting you. You know, you're oppressed too and its pathetic that you can't even see it.
- Voice of Woman in Desert: These women were fighting - with the men at first. With the men for territory, for things that seemed right at the time. And then after the fight was over, they were pushed back into the kitchens, back in the homes. Now, and there's more and more women now, that want to change. They want to go for their own.
- Isabel: We are rebuilding a warrior nation - of guerrillas. We're going to redesign the mind scape of an alienated culture. Wa're going to return to the spirit. Welcome. It's a new town.
- Adelaide Norris: I have an idea. We should take all the women and make them men and all the men and make them women. And then the men can finally see the type of shit that they put us through. And the women, the women will benefit from it all; because, they can finally see the type of things that they *don't* have to deal with.
- Socialist Editor: What is it you're saying? What is it you're saying about the revolution? Are you saying that Adelaide Norris, who was probably a counter-revolutionary, knew more about the revolution than the Party did? Listen, you can print anything you want. I can't stop you from printing it. But, think about the consequences. And think about what you are doing to the Party and what the Party stands for.
- Woman at Secretary Strike: Office wives. They expect a wife at home in the bedroom and a wife on the job. You're expected to make his coffee, get his lunch, do all these things, you know, that is not your responsibility on the job.
- Reporter: "Secretaries, Not Slaves", what does that mean?
- Woman at Secretary Strike: That means the fact that a lot of these bosses come off with an attitude like you are his slave, you are his wife - especially if it is a white boss and a black secretary.
- Voice of Woman in Desert: The world is round and big. And it's our world. And the woman can move free in the world. And there's no need for territory. And there's no need to sit in the home and be protected by the man.
- Adelaide Norris: The only armed activity we'll have is against the media, you know, like the television and radio stations.
- Voice of Woman in Desert: Yeah, that's what's important. It's the information; because, they've been throwing sand in our eyes all the time. And making us think we have to fight against things that were not a threat for us.
- Zella: We've got to cut this cover up. We somehow have to pull the - the cover off this whole story; because, they're going to bury it if they possibly can.
- Honey: Every woman under attack has the right to defend herself. And in situations where we are constant victims of brutality, we must take on the whole army and defend ourselves. And at this time, we must fight back - when and ever we are unjustly attacked.
- Honey: Freedom? You talk about freedom. Freedom is yours. It's right here and it's your right. They may label you. Try to classify you. And even call you a crazy bitch. But, don't flinch. Just let them.
- Honey: Just like the fuse that ignites the whole bomb, we are important. Black women - be ready. White women - get ready. Red women - stay ready. For, this is our time and all must realize that.
- Newspaper Editor: Women fought the war of liberation with the expectation that government would work - beyond reform, toward a truely egalitarian society. Then and now, the party has argued that social transformation must wait until the country obtains economic stability. But, unless we struggle now for our rights, we will always be oppressed.
- Newspaper Editor: Our government, which is priding itself on being the first democratic socialism, is neither democratic nor socialist. In forming an alliance with male labor, the government has reinforced the caste system that has always existed in this country.
- Newspaper Editor: The government has betrayed women. Look at the reality of your lives. We live in a fake socialist state. One which exists in name only. The government thinks that socialism was instituted ten years ago, after the war of liberation. It denies the very basis of true socialism - which is constant struggle and change.
- Newspaper Editor: We extend our support to the army as a legitimate revolutionary group; because, we also believe that the party has been undermining the economic and social position of women.
- Isabel: Wake up! We're being murdered out there in the streets. And if you're gonna sit back and watch it happen, sister, you better get it together and wake up. Because, all your babies and yourself, you're gonna be cleaned out. We ain't gonna be around no more. They gonna be nothin'! A wasteland! A wasteland, sister! Now, get it together. It's time to fight!
- Newspaper Editor: There can be no true socialism until we are all represented in government. We demand a quota system which is truly expressive of our numbers. And we will not stop fighting until we get proportional representation in government.
- TV Newscaster: The economic sex war that has threatened the city in recent weeks, erupted last night as gangs of men, mostly black, roamed the streets, breaking windows, looting stores, and attacking passersby, protesting what they call racism in workfare. The rioters claim that blacks are given meaningless jobs that don't pay enough to support their families. Government officials say the rioters will be severely punished; however, they do admit there are some problems with the workfare system and pledge that, in the future, priority placement will be given to male heads of families.
- Newspaper Editor: Decades of women's work for socialism, for freedom of choice, equality of opportunity, is being swept away. Once again, we are placed outside of politics. It isn't only women who will suffer. You know the way this pattern continues. Blacks, Latins, all ethnic and social groups will suffer as the old sex, race, and class divisions reemerge.
