Grown Ups Teaser Online

12 November 2009 11:02 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Fans of Adam Sandler's production troupe, Happy Madison, this is your lucky day. The new teaser for Grown Up is online over at Coming Soon and shows pretty much the whole gang in action, with Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, and Kevin James joining Sandler for what looks like it may be - whisper it quietly - a pretty funny ensemble piece. The five play old high-school buddies who, reunited by the death of their old basketball coach, decide to spend a Fourth of July weekend at the lakeside house where they celebrated their championship win 30 years earlier. Think The Big Chill, without any actual chilling. At all.Click here to watch the trailer, which also shows Salma Hayek, Maria Bello and Maya Rudolph in action as the wives-in-tow with a variety of adorable kiddles to witness the middle-aged mayhem.Dennis 'Benchwarmers' Dugan oversees the gags, which will »

Katie Holmes Joins Romantics Bridal Party

2 November 2009 5:30 AM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

· Katie Holmes has taken on an almost shocking amount of projects for the next year, adding the indie ensemble dramedy The Romantics to her slate for 2011. That makes three films in the works for Tom Cruise's war bride, who coincidentally wlll play a bridesmaid to Anna Paquin's bride-to-be. Holmes replaces Liv Tyler in a cast that includes Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody and Jeremy Strong as a gang of college friends who reunite for Paquin's nuptials. So basically The Big Chill with a wedding where the funeral goes. Same difference. [Variety]

Julia Roberts buys a whole Neighborhood, Morgan Freeman plays wingman, and more Hollywood Ink after the jump. »

Terrifyingly Gnarly #18 – House Of The Devil’s A.J. Bowen

28 October 2009 5:38 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

To me, it’s fitting that in our lengthy conversation, actor A.J. Bowen tells me he was close to answering the phone with Tom Atkins’ famous line, “Thrill Me.” With his phenomenal facial hair (which I open the interview with) and true talent showcased in our beloved genre, I can see him attaining the heights of that classic ’80s hero. This Friday, Ti West’s much anticipated House Of The Devil reaches theaters (you can currently check it out on VOD, and you should!) where you can see Bowen in a relatively small but integral and very fun role. Punch drunk in love with the film since I saw it earlier this year at Tribeca and a huge admirer of Bowen’s excellent work in The Signal, I knew I’d have to get him talking about it all. So read on, and get excited about the lumberjack resembling future of horror, »

"thirtysomething" Cast: Then & Now

24 August 2009 4:00 PM, PDT | Getback - TV | See recent Getback - TV news »

Quite simply, the hit ABC show "thirtysomething" changed the face of TV as we know it. The ensemble-based series kicked off a new TV genre about the everyday lives of a group of attractive friends. While it was inspired by the 1983 film "The Big Chill," we think that without "thirtysomething" there'd be no "Friends," no "Seinfeld," and no "How I Met Your Mother."

When it debuted in 1987, the Boomers of "thirtysomething," who spent the '60s fighting for peace and love, now found themselves longing for peace and quiet in their hectic yuppie lives. Creators Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick (who also brought us the beloved series "My So-Called Life" and "Once and Again") invited us into a world we'd never before seen on TV. It was unlike any other prime-time drama in that, for once, we could relate to these people. They weren't oil magnates and murderous vultures; they were friends, »

Jeff Goldblum, Still Alive And Doing Very Well

27 June 2009 1:30 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

This past Thursday, shortly after Michael Jackson’s untimely passing, a sick Internet rumor started that veteran actor Jeff Goldblum had died. His reps were quick to point out that the actor was, in fact, very much alive and well. For any of you doubting Thomases out there, here’s photographic evidence of the actor’s good health, taken just a couple weeks ago:

Of course, as many here in the MTV offices will attest to, Jeff Goldblum is king. He will always be David Cronenberg’s original “Fly” of course, but I love him best for starring alongside a young Laurence Fishburne as a high-class drug dealer in “Deep Cover.” And a designer drug dealer at that. In the honor of the fact that Jeff Goldblum still walks among us, I present to you this little photographic tour through his career.

I’ll admit, my heart skipped a beat »

Carnivorous (DVD Review)

27 May 2009 12:34 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

I’m a little late in writing up my review of North American’s Carnivorous DVD, which came out yesterday, and I have to confess that I’m feeling a little guilty about it. Actually, I’m not to blame for the delay, but for some reason I feel responsible. I guess I’ve always had a bit of a Good Will Hunting complex, and what I could use right now is for Robin Williams to hug and comfortingly repeat to me, “It’s not your fault. It’s not your fault.”

But since that ain’t happening anytime soon, I might as will get started on my critique. So here’s the explanation for this tardy review: Although I had already watched Carnivorous on a screener DVD, I had to wait for the final product to arrive in order to listen to and remark upon director Amir Valinia’s audio commentary, »

April Showers, Glenn Close

27 April 2009 8:00 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

April Showers evenings @ 11

I was too young to understand or appreciate the rise of Glenn Close in the early 80s but by the time the one/two punch of Fatal Attraction / Dangerous Liaisons hit in 87/88 she was knocking me out. She was already a star by then, though. Those fourth and fifth Oscar nominations (and who knew they would be her last?) only amplified her celebrity. Critics and Oscar voters had been devoted since her feature debut in The World According to Garp (1982).

The murderous climax to Fatal Attraction wasn't the first time a Close movie scored big with a tub/shower sequence and it wasn't the first time she starred in a Best Picture nominee either. The Big Chill (1983) brought her her second supporting actress nod and some people believe her nude shower scene sealed that honor.

We're not far into this reunion film when it happens. The film »

We have some pretty famous birthdays to report to you today! Can you guess who they are based on the following facts? You can catch him playing in Ocean's Eleven, Ocean's Twelve, and Ocean's Thirteen playing the role of Saul Bloom. He's quite the Harry Potter star, first appearing in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Perhaps he was the prisoner? He may not be with us any longer, but he certainly left his mark on generations of children in Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood! She was a witch of a woman in Little Black Book who partially redeemed herself through Saving Grace. He's nothing if not a hottie! He started out on The O.C. before playing a recurring role on Smallville, but his most recent role is Charlie Hogan in Privileged. From Boston Public to The War at Home to Prison Break, he's a familiar face on television. Sued a »

Sandler Reunites with Rock, Spade, Schneider, and James

11 February 2009 5:22 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

This will be an instant hit. Will it be any good? The recent track record says otherwise.

Adam Sandler has written a new buddy movie that will co-star Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider. Variety says it's about five high school friends who reunite 30 years later for a Fourth of July weekend. So, you know, The Big Chill minus Glenn Close crying in the shower. Although, now that I think about it, this movie would get bonus points just for throwing that in there out of the blue.

There's no title yet, however, I believe What? Really? Rob Schneider? Why? is still available. We do know that Dennis Dugan, Adam Sandler's preferred director, is on board, as well, and that it will shoot this summer. »
