Sex & Nudity

  • Considerable sexual conversation including the use of "fuck" and "screwing" and Albert Finney's mistress tells the kids that making love to their father is "like eating ice cream" when they ask her about it.
  • A man kisses a woman on the couch, unbuttons her blouse, and gently caresses her clothed breast. It is implied that they sleep together offscreen.
  • A man and a woman kiss and we then cut to them lying in bed together after having sex.

Violence & Gore

  • Diane Keaton and Albert Finney smash several dishes in anger early in the film.
  • A man smashes a window to break into his home. He proceeds to violently grab his estranged wife and shove her out the door to the ground. He then charges his oldest daughter who heaves objects at him to keep him at bay. He manages to grab her and for several minutes beats her with his hands and objects. The scene is quite intense.
  • Two men get into a strong shoving match in a restaurant and one of the men grabs the other in a wrestling hold before they are broken up.
  • Diane Keaton slaps her daughter for mouthing off.

Profanity

  • 22 uses of "fuck"(10 used sexually along with 1 use of "screwing"). Consistent usage of "shit", "ass"(including 1 "asshole"), "goddamn", and religious exclamations. Smaller uses of "damn", "hell", "bitch", "son of a bitch", "whore", "bastard" and "prick".
  • Some of the profanity is used by children.
  • The word "dago" is used once as an insult for an Italian man.
  • Diane Keaton gives another woman the finger.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Social drinking with at least one episode of intoxication.
  • Regular smoking throughout the film.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A man dies onscreen in an intense scene.
  • The scene where a man beats his daughter is intense and would most likely bother children.

  • An angry man plows his car into several other cars(severely damaging at least one) as well as a table, a gazebo, and a tennis court causing massive property destruction.
  • After the above mentioned scene the man is forcibly pulled from his car by another man who proceeds to slam him around, punch him in the face, and kick him several times(including once very hard in the crotch) leaving the man collapsed from the beating with some blood on his face.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The final scene where a man destroys property with his car and is then subsequently beaten is very intense.
