The SNL sketch "Biker Chick Chat" from the season opener of Saturday Night Live got a lot of attention thanks to newcomer Jenny Slate's F-bomb. But what didn't get attention: the frickin' bikes, dude! Though they swore up a storm and had very impressive hair, I'm not convinced they could tell their Harley Davidson V-Rods from their Kawasaki Vulcan VN750s (or Vincent Black Lighting '48s, for that matter). Ok, I'm fronting a bit here. As it happens, I can't either, but I have always had an appreciation for the mean machines, bred at an early age by Michelle Pfeiffer in Grease 2. She may not remember the role fondly (it was from her early "hot pants" period) but man did that ever define cool for me as a 10-year-old girl (now that I think of it, the film was a... »

Grease 2 isn't the only '80s flick with a contingent of hard-core underground fans. Troop Beverly Hills -- the kiddie scout comedy starring Shelley Long -- apparently has such a devout following that a "sing-a-long, dance-a-long, quote-a-long" called Troop Beverly Hills: The Experience is in the works. The plan is to premiere the event in Los Angeles, and then ship it to New York if all goes well.
This isn't quite some fan-created free-for-all. Rather than creating an environment for fans to come up with their own Rocky Horror-esque lines, there will be pre-set fan reactions organized and screened to tell attendees what to say and what to do. It's not the most organic way to go about things, but on the bright side, the event is also slated to help bring awareness to an organization called WriteGirl -- which mentors teen girls on their writing skills.

Streep at 60: More movie discussions to follow but today we're discussing Oscar competitive fields again
(the winner links take you to their acceptance speech)
The Best Actress races of 1982 and 1983 hold special meaning for me as they were my inaugural Oscar years. On April 11th of 1983 I saw my first Oscar ceremony. My only point of reference for the glitzy tradition was that my parents and my older siblings didn't like it -- something about Star Wars being way better than Woody Allen??? --and even though my parents didn't take me to that many movies, I had somehow seen and liked 3 of the 5 Best Picture nominees (Gandhi and the two blockbusters Tootsie & E.T.) For the first two years of my Oscar watching I saw a total of Zero Best Actress nominees. My how life has changed.

After a killer week, an on-going screening of the dramas and torments of the North and South miniseries, and thoughts of pacifist guntoters, I needed a break. No, scratch that -- I needed a "Cool Rider."
While many girls squee'd over Olivia Newton John and Grease, I always thought Grease 2 was so much cooler. (Age brought a better appreciation for the original, but nostalgia never dies! ... especially when the Pink Lady leader got an awesome reversible jacket to quell that terrible pink!) And for years, I was convinced I was the only one in love with 2 until a little film called My Date with Drew. Oh yes, there were die-hard Grease 2 fans out there, and they included Ms. Barrymore herself. Filmmaker Brian Herzlinger loved it so much he divided the world into two categories -- those who loved the sequel, and those who didn't.

10. Grease 2 (1982) If it had been any good, Grease 2 might have gone down in history as the first of a wave of musical sequels, not seen since the Broadway Melody series of the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s. As it stands, it’ll simply be remembered as the film that makes you want to send Michelle Pfeiffer a lengthy condolence card. 9. Jaws 3-D (1983) If George Lucas really is mulling over the idea of a 3D Star Wars, we’d suggest his mate Steven Spielberg release this monstrosity from the vaults and arrange a... .
