Anthony Hopkins Helps Out Poverty Stricken Students
15 October 2001 (WENN)
Anthony Hopkins is a secret patron of impoverished students -- he sent a struggling actor $2,900 to help with his acting classes. The Silence Of The Lambs Oscar-winning actor gave British soap opera actor Samuel James Hudson the check in response to a letter begging for help. Brookside actor James reveals, "When I was a struggling student, I wrote to Sir Anthony asking if he could help me out with my grant of $10,160 a year. I was living on the breadline. Back came a cheque for $2,900. When further study became impossible I returned the check, but it came back with a note telling me to give it to another actor who needed help." The young actor, who will soon star in British TV's Heart Of The Valley, has yet to meet his generous benefactor, but would love to thank the thoughtful legend in person. James says, "I've never met Sir Anthony, but I hope one day I will -- just to thank him. I've heard he quietly funds other students -- what a man, and what a heart!"
