This is an atypical revenge movie. I'm not talking about the film's storyline, but about the motivation behind the creation of this production. After becoming disillusioned with Hollywood, director Edwards goes vigilante in the most unusual, funny manner. He wrote, produced and directed this frontal-attack on the Hollywood structure, and Edwards' bitter cynicism can be felt as each scene unfolds. Edwards' satire is unsubtle, and borderline tasteless, but I found the movie surprisingly funny, and spot on. It is a clever farce, with plenty of slapstick and crude humor, but directed with vigor and enthusiastically performed by an all-star cast. I guess this is the kind of film that you either love or hate; I definitely had a great time watching this movie. It is funny to see the classy Julie Andrews in the midst of so much comical mayhem, and I applaud the courageous way in which she spoofs her saccharine image (her topless sequence is a hoot!). One of Edwards' most enjoyable comedies and recommended if you like the director's work.
