Trivia:

NBC executives supported the series in its infancy despite a lack of viewers; in 1981, it became the lowest-rated series ever renewed for a second season. When it was renewed, it was not renewed for the entire season, it was only renewed for 10 episodes. It was only picked up for the full season after ratings improved.

Goofs:

Revealing mistakes: During the opening credits when the police cars pull out of the garage, one of them has the overhead light bar on backwards. You can see that the others have the siren speakers between the lights facing front, while one as it facing to the trunk.

The greatest show ever

No one will ever come close to making such a down to earth drama.In any other show, the re-use of actors to play different characters would have never worked. Dennis Franz as both Bennedetto and Norman Buntz is only one of many examples. And for the gentleman who wanted to know the leader of the Shamrocks, it was none other than David Caruso, who was John Kelly in the first season of NYPD Blue. Bochco has many uses for the great actors he comes in contact with, even his own wife!!! Who can forget Faye Furrillo shreiking "Let me tell you something Mister". It is a wonder he slept at night!!
