If there is anyone I would want to choose what movies I watch this Halloween weekend (besides Stephen King or Wes Craven), I'd want it to be Oscar winning director Martin Scorsese. He's a genius filmmaker and I'm sure he knows great horror when he sees it. I think this would've been much better coordinated if his new movie Shutter Island was actually out in theaters (damn you Paramount), but either way this is a great list. The Daily Beast asked Scorsese to choose some horror movies for Halloween and he came up with his own list of the 11 Scariest Horror Movies of All Time. Read on to see what great classics he chose!
1. The Haunting (Robert Wise, 1963)
2. Isle of the Dead (Mark Robson, 1945)
3. The Uninvited (Lewis Allen, 1944)
4. The Entity (Sidney J. Furie, 1981)
5. Dead of Night (Alberto Cavalcanti, 1945)
6. The Changeling (Peter Medak, 1980)

Chicago – Discovering young filmmaker talent is one of the most exciting elements of the Chicago International Film Festival. Writer/director Ti West is one of those discoveries, with his horror film premiere, “The House of the Devil.”
West has been building a resume since 2001, with his directorial debut “Wicked.” The House of the Devil is his fourth film, and has a horror/suspense feel that seems like the era he has set the film, in 1983.

Samantha (Jocelin Donahue) is a poor college student, who desires a new apartment but doesn’t have the deposit. A mysterious sign for a babysitter piques her interest, and the mysterious gentleman (Tom Noonan) finds her perfect for the job. The assignment involves a big house and some inexplicable noises, and what the sitter must oversee might be more than she expected.

Director Steven Peros sent along some info and a bunch of exclusive photos (see them below), from The Undying, his new supernatural film from Roscommon Pictures. Peros, best known for scripting Peter Bogdanovich’s Kirsten Dunst-starrer The Cat’S Meow from his own play, also wrote Undying with producer David M. Flynn.
Robin Weigert (first photo, with Paul David Story), who nabbed an Emmy nomination for playing Calamity Jane in HBO’s acclaimed series Deadwood, stars as Dr. Barbara Houghton, who moves into a rural Pennsylvania farmhouse as she starts a job at a hospital. Still reeling from the death of her fiancé, she becomes intrigued by the story of Elijah, a Civil War soldier whose ghost supposedly haunts her new home. When Jason (Anthony Carrigan, second photo), a stabbing victim she has treated, is taken off life support, she steals his body and takes it to the farmhouse,

At the Museum of Contemporary Art/American Cinematheque benefit screening of Parasomnia (see item here), Fango got a chance to quickly chat to some of the assembled filmmakers about their upcoming projects. First up, Wes Craven took a moment to discuss the title of his latest feature, Rogue Pictures’ 25/8.
“It’s based on a phrase in the movie, saying that if you fight the devil 24/7, it’s not enough—you have to fight 25/8,” Craven tells us. “The phrase was in the film, in the dialogue. The original title of the movie was Bug, which is the name of the central character [played by Max Thieriot, pictured]. I was about halfway through writing the script when somebody said, ‘I just read that William Friedkin has a film coming out called Bug.’ So that was that for that title. It’s very punchy and intriguing, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles.”

Fango Musick Exclusive: Talking Music & Horror with Andy Deane of Bella Morte

Andy's first interview since the announcement of his first book, The Sticks!
What happens when you get two assholes -both with a reputation for running off at the mouth --together and tell them to talk? The result is a four-thousand word interview, such as the one below. Although I take the heavy-weight belt for being an asshole, Andy Deane -author and lead singer of Bella Morte --can out class me on talking any day. Even when you’re putting him in the trunk he talks, and talks, and talks. It’s a good thing this was an interview, otherwise I’d have to stick a dirty sock in his mouth again.
Andy, amongst the merits I listed above, is a hell of an interesting cat. He is the founder of Bella Morte, the author of The Sticks -a new supernatural thriller about hairy, bestial… Andy, did you write it about me?
