- Inspector Zenigata: Damn! I was a step too slow! Lupin pulled off his theft!
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: No, he didn't steal anything. He fought for me.
- Inspector Zenigata: No, ma'am. He stole something of no small value... your heart.
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: Yes, he did.
- Inspector Zenigata: Well, then, I must be going...
- Inspector Zenigata: [on TV] What's that over there?
- [He picks up a sheet of counterfeit money]
- Inspector Zenigata: Oh, wow! These are Japanese bills! Counterfeit bills!
- Interpol Secretary General: He's such a bad actor.
- Fujiko Mine: [on TV] This is an incredible revelation!
- Inspector Zenigata: [to the camera, with an armful of bills] Look, counterfeit money from all over the world. I came in after Lupin and found this terrible crime. What SHALL I do?
- [first lines]
- Daisuke Jigen: We got five billion in various denominations! It's a shower of bills, look out!
- [a pile falls on Lupin]
- Lupin III: There's a lot of them, isn't there? More! Bury me with them!
- [Jigen buries Lupin with the bills as ordered, but sees Lupin look downcast]
- Daisuke Jigen: What's wrong, Lupin?
- Lupin III: Dump them.
- Daisuke Jigen: WHAT?
- Lupin III: These are fakes. Good ones, but fakes.
- Daisuke Jigen: These? It can't be! We stole these from the vault of the national casino!
- Lupin III: It's Goat Money.
- Daisuke Jigen: Goat Money? You mean the phantom counterfeit?
- Lupin III: It's even hit the national casino... Jigen! I've decided what our next job will be! First, we're gonna celebrate!
- Daisuke Jigen: Damn, damn, damn you!
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: Who's there?
- Lupin III: A thief.
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: A thief?
- Lupin III: Good evening, Miss Bride.
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: You! You're that man from before, aren't you?
- Lupin III: [holding her ring] You left this behind.
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: You risked getting caught and killed by the Count... for this?
- Lupin III: Why, it's the way of thieves to risk their lives. If the job is finished, I'll leave.
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: The job? I wish I had something to give you, but for now I'm a prisoner.
- [holds out a trinket]
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: Take this!
- Lupin III: My prize is a treasure, locked away atop a high tower by an evil magician. Please allow this humble thief to steal it.
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: You mean me?
- Lupin III: I will reclaim the treasure locked away in the vault, and I will release in a green field the girl they are attempting to force into becoming a bride. It's all in a thief's work.
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: You mean you'll set me free? Thank you. I'm very happy. But you don't understand how terrible the House of Cagliostro is. Please go away.
- Lupin III: Oh, what a terrible thing. The girl believes in the power of the evil magician, but she won't try to believe in the power of the thief. If she would only believe, the thief would be able to fly through the air, and even drain a lake of its water.
- [plays a few tricks and offers her some sweets]
- Lupin III: This is all I can do for now.
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: Miss Fujiko!
- Fujiko Mine: I came to say goodbye while I have the chance.
- [removes her disguise]
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: Who in the world are you?
- Fujiko Mine: I'm the only woman in the castle, employed to serve you. But in reality, I'm a spy searching for the secrets of this castle. I'd intended to stay a bit longer, but Lupin's here, so I'm leaving now because things are going to get all screwed up.
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: You know him?
- Fujiko Mine: I've known him to the point that I've gotten sick of him. Sometimes we're friends, sometimes we're enemies. We've even been lovers. He's a born womanizer. Take care.
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: Did he drop you?
- Fujiko Mine: No, silly. I dropped HIM.
- Lupin III: What say we make a temporary truce, until we get out of here?
- Inspector Zenigata: Fine. But I won't aid and abet crooks. I'll arrest you when we escape, I guarantee it!
- Lupin III: Terrific. Let's have a proper shake on it.
- [He holds out his hand. Zenigata starts to hold out his own, but pulls away at the last second]
- Inspector Zenigata: I won't become intimate with you!
- Lupin III: Good grief...
- [an injured Lupin gorges himself on food]
- Daisuke Jigen: Hey, stupid, don't wolf it down like that! Your stomach won't put up with it!
- Lupin III: Shut up! I'll be fine in twelve hours and going like a jet!
- Fujiko Mine: [on TV] Thank you for waiting, ladies and gentlemen. We're now back on the air. And all hell has broken loose in the ceremonial hall!
- Lupin III: That's Zenigata, truly the ideal of the Shoowa Period. A man incomparable for his determination to his work.
- [about the Roman ruins]
- Lupin III: This is a treasure for all mankind. Too big for my pocket, anyway.
- [English dub]
- Daisuke Jigen: You... you've broken into that castle before?
- Arsene Lupin III (Manga Video dub): That was more than 10 years ago. I was looking for the secret of the Goat bills. I was still a young punk, just starting out.
- Daisuke Jigen: And? What happened?
- Arsene Lupin III (Manga Video dub): I got my butt royally kicked! Had to run away with my tail between my legs.
- [English dub]
- Inspector Zenigata (Manga Video dub): Lupin managed to steal something again!
- Clarisse d'Cagliostro: No, he didn't steal anything. All he did was fight for me.
- Inspector Zenigata (Manga Video dub): No, he stole something quite precious... your heart.
- [English dub]
- Arsene Lupin III (Manga Video dub): Good ol' Zenigata, the archetypal Japanese man. Totally devoted to his work.
- Daisuke Jigen: I've never heard of the Duchy of Cagliostro.
- Lupin III: With a population of 3500, it's the smallest nation in the world to be a member of the U.N.
- Daisuke Jigen: And that's the source of the Goat Money?
- Lupin III: There's a notorious legend about it, according to those in the know. They call it "The Black Hole of the Counterfeit World."
- Daisuke Jigen: Black Hole?
- Lupin III: They say that no one has gotten close to it and returned to tell about it.
- Daisuke Jigen: Well, I'M sure scared. I'm so scared, in fact, that I'm gonna catch some Zs...
- Inspector Zenigata: These are coffins!... What is this? These are 10,000-Yen bills! Is that what all of these are?
- Lupin III: These are well made! Have a look, Old Man!
- Inspector Zenigata: West German 1000-Mark bills!
- Lupin III: Pounds! Dollars! Francs! Roubles! Rupees! Pesos! Crowns! Lira! Oh, and they've even got Won! All the world's currencies!
- Inspector Zenigata: Lupin! Is this the secret of this castle? Counterfeiting?
- Lupin III: That's right. This is the source of the Goat Money, which was valued above the real thing at one time. Since the upheavals in Medieval Europe, the mysterious counterfeit currency has been there, always squirming in the shadows. It brought about the collapse of the Bourbon Dynasty, and became the source of Napoleon's funds. It also triggered the worldwide panic of 1927. The Goat Money - the Black Hole - the star on the backstage of history. All those who tried to eliminate the heart of the problem were never heard from again.
- Inspector Zenigata: I've heard the stories about it, but I never dreamed that an independent nation was running it...
- Lupin III: What are you gonna do, Old Man? You can't turn your back on it, now that you've seen it.
- Inspector Zenigata: I know. It would shame my policeman's blood.
- Lupin III: Hurry up, Old Man! We're gonna have company soon!
- Inspector Zenigata: Evidence! I need evidence!
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: Will you be going now?
- Lupin III: Since all the old men have come, yes.
- [They gaze at the swarm of parachutes dropping in on the castle]
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: Take me with you. I can't be a thief yet, but I'll learn. Please, take me! I want to go with you!
- [She buries her face in Lupin's chest. Lupin looks extremely uncomfortable. He grimaces and his hair stands on end. He embraces Clarisse tightly]
- Lupin III: Clarisse...
- [He trembles, then relaxes]
- Lupin III: Don't talk stupid. Do you want to go back into the darkness again? You've come out into the sun at last. Hey... your life begins now. Don't become filthy like me. I'll tell you what - if you're ever in trouble, I'll fly straight to you no matter when, even if I'm on the other side of the world.
- [Clarisse closes her eyes. Lupin kisses her lightly on the forehead]
- [last lines]
- Lupin III: Oh, no! It's the Old Man again!
- Inspector Zenigata: Lupin! I'll get you this time for sure!
- Daisuke Jigen: Did you slip into that castle?
- Lupin III: It's a story more than ten years old. I tried to solve the mystery of the Goat Money. I was still a young punk...
- Daisuke Jigen: So what happened?
- Lupin III: They gave me hell! I ran away with my tail between my legs.
- Daisuke Jigen: Hey there, Lupin. You figure a way in yet?
- Lupin III: Nope. That place is incredible. A nest of lasers and radar.
- Daisuke Jigen: I see. We may even need a tank.
- Goemon Ishikawa: That's why you called Zenigata, right?
- Daisuke Jigen: What? Is that true, Lupin?
- Lupin III: Exactly! You've got good intuition.
- Goemon Ishikawa: Use poison to fight poison, eh?
- Count Cagliostro: That pretty face has already lured a man to his doom. You can't deny the Cagliostro blood inside you.
- Daisuke Jigen: [suddenly angry] Hey... you knew that that girl we met today was the daughter of the Archduke, didn't you?
- Lupin III: [wearing a mischievous smile] Oh... you mean I didn't tell you?
- [English dub]
- Fujiko Mine: The time's come to say goodbye.
- [removes off her disguise]
- Clarisse d'Cagliostro: What are you...
- Fujiko Mine: To all appearances, I'm the one woman who is employed here in the castle as your servant. But in reality, I'm a lady spy who's looking for this castle's secret. I was hoping to stay a little longer, but now Lupin's come. Everything's fallen apart, so I'm leaving.
- Clarisse d'Cagliostro: You know that man?
- Fujiko Mine: Only too well. Sometimes we're allies, at others we're enemies. Occasionally, we're even lovers. The guy's a natural born lady-killer. Watch your step around him.
- Clarisse d'Cagliostro: He walked out on you?
- Fujiko Mine: Oh, hardly. I walked out on HIM.
- [Lupin wakes up]
- Daisuke Jigen: Lupin?
- Lupin III: Jigen! How long have I been out? How many days has it been?
- Daisuke Jigen: Three... three days.
- Lupin III: What? The wedding is tomorrow! I've got to...!
- [struggles]
- Daisuke Jigen: Take it easy! You'll tear open your wound!
- Lupin III: Food! Bring me food!
- Daisuke Jigen: Food? You mean rice gruel?
- Lupin III: I've lost a lot of blood. Anything will do, just bring me lots of it!
- Lupin III: The first thing we'll do is escape the castle. Jigen, Goemon, cover us!
- Daisuke Jigen: Leave it to us! We'll hold them off here!
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: Take care of yourselves, please. You too, Mr. Jigen.
- [Jigen gapes, causing his cigarette to fall onto his beard]
- Daisuke Jigen: Wha...?
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: Please come back safely. I'll never forget your kindness as long as I live.
- Goemon Ishikawa: Go on, get out of here!
- Lupin III: Hurry, Clarisse!
- Lady Clarisse de Cagliostro: I'm coming!
- [Clarisse and Lupin leave]
- Daisuke Jigen: She called me MISTER Jigen...
- Goemon Ishikawa: She's sweet.
- Daisuke Jigen: Let's get started!
- [while on the road, Lupin meets a fellow traveler]
- Lupin III: Fujiko!
- Fujiko Mine: Lupin, look at my trophies!
- Lupin III: The counterfeit plates... Hey! Hey! Let's be friends!
- Fujiko Mine: So long!
- [drives off]
- Lupin III: Hey! Hey! Hey! Wait a second!
- [English dub; an injured Lupin devours his food]
- Jigen (Streamline dub): Slow down. If you swallow without chewing, you're gonna give yourself indigestion.
- Arsene Lupin III: Please! I've never had indigestion in my life, Jigen.
- [Jigen and the gardener stare at Lupin in astonishment as he stuffs his face with a whole loaf of bread. Lupin then grabs handfuls of meat and cheese]
- Jigen (Streamline dub): No, no, no, don't do it!
- [Lupin defiantly shoves the meat and cheese in his mouth. Suddenly, he stops chewing. He sweats and his face turns green]
- Jigen (Streamline dub): You're gonna choke yourself. Spit it out.
- [Lupin lies back down. His stomach now seems to be bloated]
- Arsene Lupin III: I don't feel so good...
- Jigen (Streamline dub): [leaning towards into Lupin] Are you okay?
- [He turns to the gardener]
- Jigen (Streamline dub): He's gonna rest a while.
- Arsene Lupin III: It has something to do with the hidden treasure. You can bet it's a big one.
- Inspector Keibu Zenigata (Streamline dub): Well, I guess that explains what you're doing here. Have you found anything yet?
- Arsene Lupin III: [smiling wanly and handing his cigarette to Zenigata] That's for me to know and you to find out. Unless you want to work together on this thing. Think it over and let me know.
- [He rolls onto his side]
- Arsene Lupin III: And by the way, Fujiko's here, too. We could make a hell of a team.
- Inspector Keibu Zenigata (Streamline dub): [grabbing Lupin's jacket] Wolf! Hold it right there! You're under arrest, pal!
- Arsene Lupin III: [half-sincerely] Gee, so glad you're safe, too.
- Inspector Keibu Zenigata (Streamline dub): Alright, Mr. Wise Guy, show me how to get out of here.
- Arsene Lupin III: I'm just as much at a loss as you are.
- Inspector Keibu Zenigata (Streamline dub): Huh?
- [He sags and sinks to his knees]
- Inspector Keibu Zenigata (Streamline dub): Oh, great.
- Arsene Lupin III: [grinning magnanimously] In a way, we're both sort of under arrest, Inspector.
- Inspector Keibu Zenigata (Streamline dub): Wolf! I'm in no mood for comedy.
- Arsene Lupin III: We might as well make the best of it. We could be here for a long time.
- Inspector Zenigata: I figured this was no ordinary castle, but a secret worth going this far to keep... Is that what you're after, too?
- [Lupin hands Zenigata his cigarette. The Inspector takes a puff of it]
- Lupin III: The one who's up to that is Fujicakes. I just hope she doesn't end up joining the dearly departed. Anyway, making a fuss isn't going to get us anywhere.
- [He rolls onto his side and drifts off to sleep]
- Lupin III: Goodnight, Pops.
- [Zenigata, cigarette in mouth, stares thoughtfully ahead in silence]
- [Lupin, hanging onto one of the spikes in the Count's death trap by his grappling hook, sees a rush of water sent down by the Count's men heading towards him]
- Lupin III: Aw, shit!
- [the water pushes him through the tunnel and causes him to dangle by his grappling hook above the floor of the catacombs]
- Lupin III: Treat me like human excrement, will you? Well, pooh-pooh to that!
- Inspector Zenigata: I want to see the Count immediately.
- [Two guards stand at the castle entrance with spears crossed]
- Inspector Zenigata: Did you hear me? Let me through!
- Gustav: Give it up. Only those deemed trustworthy are permitted beyond this point.
- Inspector Zenigata: What? Are you saying the ICPO can't be trusted?
- Gustav: I believe you have been ordered to withdraw. Please take your leave.
- Inspector Zenigata: How did you know about that?
- Gustav: We can deal with the likes of Lupin without the help of you Orientals. Now, leave.
- Inspector Zenigata: [grudgingly resigned] I see. I understand.
- Inspector Zenigata: [presenting the counterfeit money] Please order me to move against them! We have all this indisputable evidence! I saw it myself! A whole row of state-of-the-art printing presses,
- Interpol Secretary General: I know that!
- [Zenigata blinks, dumbfounded]
- Interpol Secretary General: This is a highly political problem. Our jurisdiction at Interpol is limited to international crimes.
- Inspector Zenigata: Secretary General, it is clear that this is criminal!
- French Delegate: You just don't get it. We're talking about a sovereign state and a member of the UN. Even Interpol cannot conduct a compulsory investigation.
- West German Delegate: Not only that, but the situation is exceedingly unfavorable for us. Did you see this photo that's on the front page of every newspaper around the world? The bravery of the Count, who personally protected his bride. "Lupin Fails to Abduct Princess Clarisse".
- British Delegate: They also say, "Lupin's Accomplice Disguised as Zenigata".
- Inspector Zenigata: That was all me, the real McCoy.
- Japanese Delegate: That's problematic. As an active duty police officer, that was imprudent of you.
- Inspector Zenigata: [losing his patience over the stupidity of the situation] I believe I reported what really happened!
- American Delegate: The issue is here, which side the public will believe.
- French Delegate: We stand no chance, surely.
- Soviet Delegate: The Count supposedly has a lot of political friends in the West. I imagine many countries would have a problem if the truth was revealed.
- American Delegate: Exactly! In point of fact, there's proof that a certain country ordered a massive quantity of counterfeit US dollar bills!
- Soviet Delegate: And these fake rubles weren't ordered by your CIA?
- [the room erupts into bickering. Head bowed, Zenigata glares at the commotion, helpless]
- Inspector Zenigata: [saluting] I'm Zenigata of the International Criminal Police Organization. It was reported that you received an advance notice from Lupin, and that is why I am here.
- Count Cagliostro: You mean that petty thief who's third-generation Arsene Lupin or whatever? Is Interpol in the habit of disturbing people's breakfasts for such things?
- [Zenigata scowls at the Count's rude response]
- Inspector Zenigata: Your Excellency, Lupin is not to be underestimated. If he says he'll come, he will, without fail. There are five days until your nuptials. I insist that you allow us to patrol your castle.
- [Without looking up, the Count rings a bell]
- Count Cagliostro: We have police in this country, too, you know. Though we refer to them more elegantly as gendarmes.
- [a massive guard appears beside Zenigata]
- Gustav: You called, sir?
- Count Cagliostro: Gustav, co-operate with this Japanese man.
- [He addresses Zenigata]
- Count Cagliostro: You're dismissed.
- Inspector Zenigata: Yes, sir! One more thing, Your Excellency. Please tell me why that scoundrel Lupin would be after your bride.
- Count Cagliostro: [narrowing his eyes] Who knows? Isn't investigating that part of your job as well?
- [Zenigata scowls again, but tries to keep calm]
- Inspector Zenigata: Please excuse me.
- Lupin III: [through the fake ring] Hey, Count, you listen and you listen good!
- [a pompom with materials shaped like a bird's face pops out of it]
- Lupin III: I've got the real ring! You try and lay a finger on that girl, and here's what I'll do to your precious ring!
- [the fake ring explodes into confetti in the Count's hand]
- Arsene Lupin III: [through the fake ring] Sorry, Count, but I've still got the real ring.
- [a pompom with googly eyes and a bird beak pops out of the ring]
- Fake Ring (Streamline dub): I'm a fake, but not only that, I'm also wired to self destruct. Here I go!
- [the ring explodes into confetti]
- Inspector Zenigata: [kicking the asses of the Count's staff] Don't underestimate the Metropolitan Police!
- Inspector Zenigata: Lupin, what in the world is the deal with this horde of dead bodies? It doesn't strike me as a gravesite.
- Lupin III: [cigarette in mouth] Take a look at the wall there.
- [Zenigata crawls over to the wall and, turning on his lighter, sees the epitaph the Japanese spy carved on it]
- Inspector Zenigata: This is...
- [He sits reverently and addresses the dead spy]
- Inspector Zenigata: May you rest in peace.
- Inspector Keibu Zenigata (Streamline dub): [in mock surprise] Well, what do we have here? Look: Printing presses! What could they be printing, I wonder...? Hmm... let's take a look.
- [He pretends to snoop around and gathers an armful of counterfeit bills]
- Inspector Keibu Zenigata (Streamline dub): Why, it's money! Counterfeit! Well, what do you think about that?
- Interpol Officer (Streamline dub): We'll never cover this up...
- Inspector Keibu Zenigata (Streamline dub): What a break! I found this purely by accident. My investigation of the Count was closed, and I was after Wolf!
- [He blinks innocently]
- Inspector Keibu Zenigata (Streamline dub): Can you believe it?
