Pretty good early Sam Raimi horror short.

I just finished watching "Clockwork" on Youtube and I must say that I enjoyed this sweet little short.Scott Spiegiel plays a homeless serial killer, who terrorizes a lonely rich woman in her home. The film looks grainy and unpolished and the climax is surprisingly violent and offers a nice twist. As a fan of "The Evil Dead" I always wanted to see late 70's Sam Raimi's horror shorts."Within the Woods" was quite easy to find, however the other short movies including "Clockwork" and "It's Murder" were out of reach. So if you want to see Scott Spiegel going berserk with a knife don't hesitate to watch "Clockwork".Unfortunately Youtube is perhaps the only way to watch it.

Clockwork (1978)

*** (out of 4)

Seven-minute short from Raimi has a rich woman arriving to her lonely home not knowing that a serial killer is watching her from the outside. Soon the maniac breaks in and heads for the woman's bedroom. I really wasn't expecting too much from this 8mm short but was shocked to see how much talent you could see from the young director. Being 8mm you have to expect some rough patches around the edges but overall I was really impressed with the film. There's some nice directorial touches including one great shot where the woman is getting undressed and the camera slides down to below the bed. Another nice touch is in the editing when the attack happens at the end of the movie. There's a nice twist in the movie that works extremely well. No one will ever confuse this with one of the director's bigger films but for fans of his and the horror genre this movie delivers.
