(1977) Burt Reynolds is the Bandit, a fun-loving speed demon running interference on a crazy long haul beer run with rig-driving partner Jerry Reed and runaway bride Sally Field in the passenger seat, and Jackie Gleason is the exasperated smokey on his trail, Sheriff Buford T. Justice, on the outlaw car comedy. It was the second highest grossing film of 1977 -- behind Star Wars. Former stunt man Hal Needham directs the mayhem.

Peter W. Simeon (19990328):
This DVD is one of those Universal titles, which was made from an existing laserdisc master. As with the other such titles, the result is not great. It's almost impossible to make a really good DVD whithout doing a new film-to-video transfer. In this case mostly aliasing and video noise disturb the viewing pleasure. The picture is also a bit soft and the colors are a bit faded.
