This was the first BBC drama to be first edited "off-line". Director, Jane Howell, was told she would have to shoot using the new light-weight video cameras instead of on film. She was considering refusing as she thought it would be impossible to edit well. Whilst editing another videoed drama the on-line editor mentioned that the BBC had just acquired an off line edit suite but had yet to use it. She requested it for this play and management reluctantly allowed her even though they had planned another programme as being the first.
