Bill Murray got top billing on movie posters and home video and DVD covers, even though he only appears in one segment.
The movie's title, and a musical number in the movie, come from a 1976 incident in which Secretary of Agriculture Earl L. Butz reportedly joked that "the only thing the coloreds are looking for in life are tight pussy, loose shoes, and a warm place to shit." Butz was forced to resign.
The film's main movie poster featured billing for supporting actors on the poster after the credited actors by stating that the movie starred "and a cast of total unknowns".
One of the DVD covers features an image of Howard Hesseman's character from the TV show "WKRP in Cincinnati" and an image of Bill Murray from the poster of "Stripes."
