More than five decades into their career, Judas Priest have always been one of metal’s most reliably great bands, likely because the responsibility they feel to the genre weighs just as heavily as the music they make. They never want to let down their fans, the “heavy metal maniacs,” as lead shrieker Rob Halford dubbed them long ago, even as they’ve pressed forward in the face of adversity in recent years. Guitarist Glenn Tipton, a bona fide metal icon known for his electrifying solos, revealed he’d been...

Jeremy Piven, who won three Primetime Emmy awards for his performance on the HBO series Entourage, and Jamie Costa, best known for his impression of Robin Williams in the 2021 viral video Robin, have signed on to star in the supernatural action movie Fight for Your Life, which Luke Sparke (Occupation: Rainfall) will be directing from a screenplay he wrote with Tom Evans.
Piven will be taking on the role of a soldier who wakes up in a mysterious cell and is forced to face an onslaught of deadly opponents in an ever-changing fight arena – his only goal being to survive long enough to return to his daughter.

Safe House 1618 is the latest film about criminals on the run taking refuge in a house that turns out not to be nearly as safe as they thought. From Fight for Your Life and The Desperate Hours to Hideout and Blood Massacre it’s a well-used theme in several genres. Can writer/director Calvin T. Shepherd find a new way to tell it?
The film opens with the murder of a bound man by a masked figure. A cell phone message indicates the victim double-crossed whoever ordered his death. From there we move to three masked figures in the back of a truck. It backs into the driveway of a house with an armed guard who is stupid enough to walk up to the truck and let himself be disarmed.

“Making the Cut” premiered over five weeks from March 27 to April 24. Now that the season is over, what did you think of the competition? And if you haven’t seen it yet, are you planning to binge all 10 hours now that the whole thing is available to view? Either way, you can scroll down for our recaps of each and every episode, every assignment, every elimination, and of course the coronation of the ultimate winner (you can watch that interview at the bottom of this post).
This fashion competition series brought together 12 designers from around the world to vie for a $1 million grand prize and a mentorship with Amazon Fashion. And streaming on the global retailer also gave the show the opportunity to sell each week’s winning looks worldwide after episodes debuted. So this show wasn’t just about the art of design, it was also about the business of retail.

Amazon’s “Making the Cut” isn’t just a fashion competition, it’s about business. The series is looking for a creative artist who’s also an entrepreneur capable of running their own global brand. So with only five contestants left, hosts Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn gave them an assignment that tested their business prowess: the designers not only created looks for a fashion show but also oversaw photo shoots to promote those looks. So who sold the judges on their skills in “Digital Marketing Campaign,” and who failed to make the cut? Read on for our recap with our minute-by-minute hot takes.

It was sad to see Sabato Russo go in episode five of “Making the Cut,” “Streetwear,” in which he ignored Tim Gunn‘s advice and paid the price for that decision when the judges deemed his looks too safe and not really streetwear. That assignment and his usual aesthetic were like oil and water, and episode six took that farther: in “Opposing Forces,” the final six designers had to create two looks that represented contrasting styles, cultures or ideas. So whose opposites attracted the judges, and who just clashed? Read our recap below for all our minute-by-minute hot takes.

After four episodes in Paris, “Making the Cut” hosts Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn decided it was time for a change of scenery, so they brought the seven remaining designers to Tokyo, Japan, where they were inspired by the city’s unique urban style. So who won the “Streetwear” assignment, and who was told to hit the road? Read our recap below for our minute-by-minute hot takes on the show’s visit to the Asian metropolis.

“It was my absolute worst nightmare,” says “Making the Cut” designer Jonny Cota about the fourth assignment of the competition, “Fight for Your Life,” the aptly titled episode in which the designers only had seven hours to make a whole look using leftover fabric from previous challenges. He thought, “Okay, Cota, this is when you go home.” But instead, this was when he won his first assignment of the season, which meant his look was made available for sale on Amazon. Watch our exclusive video interview with Cota above.

In episode three of “Making the Cut,” “Collaboration,” the designers had to work in pairs to create mini collections that blended their aesthetics. At the end of that episode Josh Hupper was eliminated (he actually sort of eliminated himself before the judges even had the chance), and his partner Troy Hul Arnold was on the verge of elimination. So did the judges’ ultimately decide to give him a second chance? And how did the designers do in the next challenge when they had mere hours instead of days to create “Fight for Your Life” looks? Developer Crystal Dynamics has confirmed plans to roll out Cold Darkness Awakened, the final piece of Dlc for Rise of the Tomb Raider, across Xbox One and PC.
Included as part of the sequel’s Season Pass, there’s no word yet how much the add-on will cost as a standalone download. What we do know is that it’ll be available to purchase via the Xbox Marketplace, Steam or, alternatively, Microsoft Windows 10 storefront.
It looks set to be Lara’s darkest adventure yet, too. Arriving on the heels of January’s Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch expansion, Cold Darkness Awakened thrusts our battle-worn heroine into a brutal fight with infected enemies. There’s also mention of a wave-based mode, and you can catch a brief glimpse of Miss. Croft in action via the clip above.

As promised, Microsoft ushered Rise of the Tomb Raider into the spotlight during last night’s The Game Awards 2015 ceremony to showcase our first peek at the Baba Yaga story expansion due for release in early 2016.
But beyond that, season pass holders will be pleased to note that the publisher along with Crystal Dynamics have locked down release windows for the testing Endurance Mode, while Cold Darkness Awakened is slated for mid-to-late 2016.
It’s the latter of the two that’s arguably the more enticing when it comes to Rise of the Tomb Raider’s post-launch plans. If Baba Yaga orbits around the ancient folklore witch, then Cold Darkness Awakened will focus on a different strand of the supernatural – this time, a long-dormant spell that transforms man and beast alike into raging killing machines.

On November 11th, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! fanatics will be able to choose a new avatar: Jack himself. Well, sort of. You see, the character is actually called “Jack” with quotation marks, because he’s a doppelganger and not the real man. It’s a bit weird, but that’s Borderlands for you.
Handsome Jack’s Doppelganger Pack will release at a $9.99 price point, but will be available for ‘free’ to those who’ve purchased the game’s Season Pass. Of course, being that it’s a new character and all, you can expect unique abilities and skills to both utilize and unlock, with the biggest selling point being his penchant for sending out death-dealing digi-clones of himself. Going further, he’ll also be able to gather weapon upgrades and have more of a fighting chance in Fight for Your Life mode. Cool stuff indeed.

We’ve seen a lot of trailers for Mikami’s The Evil Within, and all signs point to a nightmarish experience. That said, what promises to be a return to greatness for the survival horror genre isn’t just there to scare you. No, it also wants to kill you. Not in boring fashion, either: This game wants to reveal your guts as often as it can.
If you’ve yet to see enough to justify a purchase and want to give the game another gander, or simply happen to be a glutton for gore, here’s another video to fit your needs. Entitled, “Fight For Your Life,” it’s exactly what it should be: A trailer that introduces creepy, cult-like enemies and monstrosities, then shows off its death-dealing mansion’s many traps, including spikes and bombs. Watch as things explode and poor Sebastian Castellanos goes ka-boom in gory ways.

German “hero metal” band Van Canto brings something entirely new to the game: proving that heavy metal is not merely a genre label or even a writing/performing style but a state of mind, these six skilled musicians shape their epic sound – riffs, leads, solos, the works – using almost exclusively human voices. Their one concession to traditional metal instrumentation is the inclusion of a drumkit as accompaniment to the vocals – which are multi-tracked, amplified and electronically treated to represent all guitar, bass and keyboard parts. With the help of expert mixing and production, the result is sometimes barely distinguishable from an actual guitar-based band (it's often hard to tell the difference until you hear the lead “guitarist” take a breath between notes), but more careful listening will uncover a smooth, expert blend of classical and experimental voice techniques that elevate Van Canto above the realm of novelty acts and into...

Every year, we here at Sound On Sight celebrate the month of October with 31 Days of Horror; and every year, I update the list of my favourite horror films ever made. Last year, I released a list that included 150 picks. This year, I’ll be upgrading the list, making minor alterations, changing the rankings, adding new entries, and possibly removing a few titles. I’ve also decided to publish each post backwards this time for one reason: the new additions appear lower on my list, whereas my top 50 haven’t changed much, except for maybe in ranking. I am including documentaries, short films and mini series, only as special mentions – along with a few features that can qualify as horror, but barely do.

The character that immediately reached out to me when the first "Borderlands" dropped was Brick -- a loud, explosive meatloaf of a man whose solution to all of life's problems (including difficult math) was punching it in its stupid face. Admittedly, not the best character in that game to solo but definitely right up my ally as far as playstyle is concerned -- run in, rage out, punch everything to death, and (sometimes) get revived by more prudent players. Learning that the original four characters wouldn't return, I was a bit dissappointed by the loss of my favorite vault hunter and his successor -- Salvador the Gunzerker -- just didn't quite click with me.
Here's where Krieg comes in to play. As the second Dlc character, Gearbox goes out with a literal bang with a psycho killer that has a taste for blood. In my mind, he is the very...

Resident Evil was the watershed gaming event for horror fans. How many people, upon seeing that sucker, decided it was time to buy a PlayStation? Finally there was a video game that wonderfully captured the atmosphere and sentiment of our beloved genre. With a wonderfully simple premise (A Swat-esque team on a rescue mission gone awry), oodles of spooky atmosphere and jaw-dropping blood and guts, it was everything we could’ve wanted in a console experience.
Hard to believe that was nearly twenty years ago. In that time we’ve had numerous sequels, next-gen remakes, spin-offs, an enduring movie franchise and much more. As far as video games go, it’s hard to find a legacy as enduring as Resident Evil. Which brings us to Resident Evil 6 - the most recent entry in the series, released on both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 this past October. As a longtime fan of these games,...

I love horror board games. One of my favorite things is playing "Last Night on Earth" with good friends, solid beer and the Dawn & Day soundtracks on repeat. When news of this particular project landed in my inbox, I just couldn't resist telling our readers about it.
"Kingdom Death: Monster" is a cooperative board game set in a nightmare-horror world. Fight for your life, scavenge, craft, and band together to survive. But wait until you see the effort the game's creators are putting into this sucker. Gorgeous and inventive figure sculpts, an interesting mythology and a generally high-concept and involving flow.
Don't take my word for it, of course. Dig on the YouTube video below that chronicles "Kingdom Death: Monster" in all its detail. And if this is something you're interested in, be sure to head on over to their Kickstarter page to contribute a little something. These guys have...

Looks like the shoot-first-ask-questions-never action of Borderlands may be going mobile in “Borderlands Legends” for iOS. While nothing has been officially announced by Gearbox or 2K Games, an ad for the title was recently spotted in the "Borderlands 2" digital strategy guide.
According to the ad, Legends is “specifically designed for mobile and tablet” and will let players step into the shoes of Roland, Lilith, Mordecai or Brick – the cast of the original Borderlands – to take on waves of oncoming enemies. The ad also tells us that the game could be available as early as this month!
Unlike the console experience, "Borderlands Legends" is only offering thousands of weapons, compared to the supposed millions seen in the full versions of the game. However, the app also promises 36 powers and abilities, a strategic cover system and a new “Fight for Your Life” game mode.

This month we talk to Texas Frightmaker Allen Reed from Subamerican Productions, a Texas-based pair of filmmakers who have just completed The Merchant, their first feature-length film, which was shot entirely in Texas using local talent. I sat down with Reed to discuss his work as an independent Texas producer of horror films.
Mr. Dark: Can you tell us a little about who you are and what you've done?
Allen Reed: Well, let's see... We are Subamerican Productions, LLC, which basically consists of myself and director Justin Mosley. We are a very indie filmmaking duo that does not fight crime on the side. We've been making short films for 6 or 7 years, but last year we undertook our first big-boy-pants project. It's called The Merchant, a supernatural thriller/horror film set in the late 1800's and filmed in East Texas.

Let's face it. Just because we walk upright and possess the power of reason (well at least some of us do) doesn't mean that we're any better than most of the creatures in our animal kingdom. The only hitch? Animals only kill when they have to, but humans? We're just looking for a reason.

"Paranormal Activity 3" rocked the box office last weekend, and it looks like next October we may be able to find out what happened to Katie and Hunter — a fourth installment in the supernatural chiller is possibly heading our way. (Duh!)

I'm sure he's thinking, 'Now what do I do?'" Where do you think they'll take the storyline from here?

Mermaids aren't native to Nebraska, but that doesn't mean that Lady Gaga won't try and find a way to keep one alive in the landlocked state. According to reports and tweets out of the state, Gaga has been shooting something there. We're gonna go out on a limb and say it's her next music video, which we already know will include a mermaid. We're also gonna assume it's for the song "You And I."
Why are we going to make this guess? Well, Gaga has dropped a few hints along the way. First off, the name of her mermaid character in this next video is "Yuyi." Using some keen dissection skills, Yuyi looks an awful lot like the words “you” and “I” mashed together.
Just this week, Gaga sat down with Howard Stern and said that that she thinks “You and I” is the best song she’s ever written.
