Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

Rating 4/10

Mac shows a pornographic playing card to a staff member in the institution and brings prostitutes in for a late night Christmas/going-away party, getting Billy Bibbit initiated into sex. The next morning, Ratched finds Billy in bed with one of the prostitutues.

Mac is interrupted when he's about to have sex with a woman on a fishing boat. We get a glimpse of her bare back and her breast is partly visible.

Mac pretends to masturbate on two occasions, with associated sounds and hand movements. There are several other masturbation references with terms like "jerking off".

A man's bare butt is shown for about 3 or 4 seconds.

Violence & Gore

Rating 6/10

Mac punches an attendant hard as he is trying to escape

A patient kills himself with a glass shard because he is afraid the nurse will tell his mother he had sex with a hooker, and you just see a blood-spattered room and the nurse's hysterical reaction.

Mac chokes Nurse Ratched. Mac is then punched from behind and knocked out (later lobotomized into a vegetative condition). Bromden finds Mac was made unable to escape ("worked on") and smothers him with a pillow in a form of mercy killing, then makes his own violent escape ripping out a bathroom water- spraying machine as a battering ram to hurl through a window.

Mac can be a very violent character with anger problems.

Profanity

10/10

About 40 uses of "fuck" and "motherfucker".

One use of the word "cunt".

Many uses of other words, such as "shit", "bitch" and "bastard".

3/10

Mack smokes while he is being evaluated.

Several characters are seen smoking sporadically.

Many of the characters are seen drinking, esp. at the party Mac arranges the night before his unsuccessful escape attempt. Bromden tells Mac how his father became an alcoholic and is now blind from years of it ("worked on").

7/10

The movie is dark and can get emotional.

This movie has you at the edge of your seat with drama, but is intercut with humorous moments.

After McMurphey is lobotimzed, "Chief" Bromden euthanizes him (suffocation)

27/50
