If you’re at the S. Lamar theater this weekend, and you see a bunch of groggy ass, smelly, crazy-looking people wandering out of the theater around noon on Sunday, don’t worry. They won’t hurt you, they will have just sat through a full 24 hours plus of movies and they’ll be in desperate need of sleep. I’ll be one of them. It’ll be awesomely exhausting! Aside from that, if you got tickets already (if not, toooo bad), you can see the folks from Broken Lizard with their newest film The Slammin’ Salmon, but the most important thing that you should do is Go See Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans!!! Yes, the name is long, and the trailer makes it look kind of silly, but the hype over at Alamo Headquarters is ridiculous and the few people in

The El Topo and Holy Mountain director thrilled the 1970s counter-culture. Now his crazed visions are turning on everyone from Santigold to Kasabian
Eyebrows, hopes and ceremonially lit bongs were all raised earlier this year with the news that Alejandro Jodorowsky was finally making another movie. The high priest of head-trip cinema, Jodorowsky blew the collective mind of the counter-culture with a handful of supremely odd movies in the 1970s, such as El Topo and The Holy Mountain, but despite continual promises and rumours, Jodorowsky's long-awaited return never seemed to materialise. In the meantime, his work has been seized upon by a new generation of hipsters desperately seeking out-there inspiration, as we shall see. This year, though, at the Cannes film festival, Jodorowsky announced he had raised the cash for his next movie. It would be called King Shot, and it would be a metaphysical western set in a desert casino,

Alejandro Jordorowsky certainly is a strange and amazing fellow. It's extremely sad though that only a small amount of people have had the chance to find out just how strange and amazing the artist's works actually are. He has heavily influenced everyone from The Beatles to David Lynch to Sam Fuller and Bob Dylan. Despite his popularity, it has been his own film's content which has in many cases helped put his own head in the stocks and his films on the shelf. Their confronting, bizarre, often overtly religious, and always graphic imagery puts viewers through the ringer and his disregard for convention is almost seizure inducing.
In the man's own words; "I ask of film what most people ask of psychedelic drugs" and anyone who has seen any of his amazingly surreal work will know for sure that he doesn't lie.
But it isn't all just weird for werid's sake.

Filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky Returning With 'King Shot'

If you're familiar with the work of Chilean filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky (Fando y Lis, El Topo, The Holy Mountain), you might wonder how he'd fit in with modern cinema. He's something of a relic, from a great time when someone like Luis Bunuel could regularly garner Oscar nominations, and when former Beatles (and their wives) had their hands in producing art films. Today, however, John Lennon is no longer around to champion Jodorowsky, and the shocking surrealist has lost his placement in between Bunuel and Pier Paolo Pasolini in terms of contemporary relevance. Now he's set to make his triumphant return.
Nearly 20 years after his last film (The Rainbow Thief with Peter O'Toole), Jodorowsky will return to filmmaking with the "metaphysical spaghetti western" King Shot. And, he's managed to find some appropriate collaborators who will allow him to fit in well with other current iconoclasts.

According to Screen Daily:
“Uj Budapest FilmStudio’s Laszlo Kantor has revealed further details of one of the more colourful projects currently being hatched in the market, Alejandro Jodorowsky’s King Shot. Financing is nearing completion on the $7.4m (€5.5m) film, first announced in Cannes last year and billed as a “metaphysical spaghetti western.” An Italian partner is poised to board the film and shooting has now been set for early October in Spain
Kantor is co-producing alongside an array of partners, among them David Lynch, whose outfit Absurda is handling world sales. Paris-based Hungarian Simon Shandor of Clavis Film is the lead producer. The project stars Nick Nolte, Cannes jury member Asia Argento, Udo Kier and Marilyn Manson. Vilmos Zsigmond has now been brought on board as cinematographer.
The film marks the maverick Jodorowsky’s return to directing after a 20 year break. His earlier works, including Santa Sangre, El Topo and The Holy Mountain,
