The 12th Earl of Clogborough locates his lost heir but is appalled because he is working class, he makes his butler promise to stay in service to teach the heir. He dies and the heir, Clifford Basket, becomes 13th Earl of Clogborough.
The Funeral of the 12th Earl takes place , Bodkin eventually persuades Clifford and Mrs Basket to go live at Clogborough Hall, after they are evicted from their council house.
Clifford is asked to judge the local May Queen contest. The Earl and the Butler promise the crown to different contestants, in the chaos the Earl crowns Bodkin.
After receiving a rates bill Bodkin remembers the ancient right of Turbary, the dig up a golf course and the bowling green- the council agrees to settle the bill if they renounce their rights.
