Stefan Brückner : That's what horse is?
Estelle Miller : Yeah. People who take horse want to escape from life. People who smoke this or take acid want to intensify their lives. Hippies put horse down. And junkies put down the little fools that think they've discovered the world. Hardly anybody mix the two. They live completely different ways of life.

Stefan Brückner : No, tell me.
Estelle Miller : Getting hooked. It's the end. But, if you only take one shot every once in awhile. Its no different than an occasional drink or cigarette.

Stefan Brückner : [voice over during an acid trip] A revelation of the ultimate reality of things. Of their infinite textures. The world is like new. I am ravaged by a thirst for the absolute and purity. I can clearly face up to the abominable alienation I had been led into.

Stefan Brückner : [Sunbathing naked on the rocks] Do you know about the sun worshippers? There are young men in Calcutta who suddenly decide to devote their lives to the worship of the sun. They sit cross-legged and completely naked and stare at it all day long. Pretty soon they go blind. And after about a year they shrivel up like plants and die.
Estelle Miller : Whoa!
[opens her eyes and stares at the Sun]

Charlie : How can we find some bread?
Stefan Brückner : Work.
Charlie : Doing what?
Stefan Brückner : Don't know. What about selling - postcards or subway maps or something like that?
Charlie : Yeah, man, I really can't see us.
Stefan Brückner : How about hustling girls?
Charlie : Same as cards, you need capital.

Charlie : Hey, are you, like, honest?
Stefan Brückner : So-so. And you?
Charlie : Yeah. Like you. So-so.

Estelle Miller : Do you want to go to a party tonight?
Stefan Brückner : Where?
Estelle Miller : You take the road to San Jose and you go straight till the 7 kilometer mark. And you take the first turn to the right and there's this little road and there will be a big fire there. And that's where its at.

Estelle Miller : Well, you can sleep here. I asked somebody and they'll lend you a room.
Stefan Brückner : Yeah. What about you?
Estelle Miller : I live with Cathy.

Stefan Brückner : I thought we were happy together?
Estelle Miller : Maybe you were, but, I wasn't.

Stefan Brückner : No. How much?

Bearded Man : I told you, he does a lot of things. He's got some restaurants. He owns a hotel - and a bar. But, actually, I think its a cover. Actually, I think he ran into some trouble after the war and there's some kind of ex-Nazi thing, which is based in the Mediterranean. Anyway, that's what people say.
