Ain't necessarily so
lwjoslin23 September 2003
An earlier commentor wrote: "This short film was detailed in the book YOUNG FILMMAKERS, by Rodger Larson & Ellen Meade." No, it wasn't. I found a copy of the book at an online source and ordered it. The book makes NO mention of "GORGO VS. GODZILLA, a short animated film that also included Rodan." The previous commentor continues, "Although I have never personally seen GORGO VS. GODZILLA, rest assured...it does exist." Well, it may or it may not. And to those of you who say it doesn't, note that this site describes it as a SHORT, not a feature film. But the book makes, I repeat, NO mention of it. The previous commentor concludes, "The book even had a few stills showing the renderings of Gorgo and Godzilla." No, it doesn't. No stills, no mention at all. I'm mystified as to why the previous commentor made these claims.

HEY JOHN CARPENTER, WHERE IS THIS MOVIE??!?
corekiller27 February 2003
John, if you're reading this, you are a Legend in the movie industry(yeah, like you didn't already know lol!). Everything you've EVER done on film, no matter HOW ridiculous or embarrassing it may appear to you, is inspiring to all the people out their striving to make their dreams of following in your footsteps a reality. We all know you didn't start out with "Halloween" the first day you picked up a camera. If people could see your early material(like "Gorgo vs. Godzilla"-does this even EXIST?!?!), it would help them to understand that humble beginnings, coupled with intense love for storytelling on film, can evolve into greatness!

Does it exist?

this is real alright - an 8mm short made by a teenage Carpenter. It's one of those amateur titles that sometimes get into the database to satisfy filmography completists. I'd like to see it, if Carpenter can find it. Maybe it'll show up as a DVD supplement some day.

--------------------------------------------------------------- What this guy said. John Carpenter made this SHORT featurette when he was 21. 5 years before DARK STAR and 9 before HALLOWEEN.

You all should know the name John Carpenter. His visual style and scoring are legendary in the horror genre. Why is it so unlikely that he made a short little movie with Godzilla in it ?

For all the GZ fans, if you ever did see this, I would be surprised to know there were that many copies in existence.

one can dream, though...
CatTales9 January 2002
Like "Amazing Colossal Man dates the 50 ft. woman," or Dustin Hoffman's "The Postgrad," this is a sequel that exists in the imagination. If it were made, no doubt it would be a Toho production (like King Kong vs. Godzilla) taking place on a non-descript toy landscape, etc. Better imaginations envision Godzilla taking a jaunt to jolly old England, re-destroying all the rebuilt landmarks felled by Gorgo. Gorgo, sporting a beret, returns from summering in France, and it's tooth and nail to the bitter end between her and Godzilla to see who gets to colonize England, until the son of Godzilla and baby Gorgo making a surprise appearance as friends, thus effecting a reconciliation between the two battling behemoths.

Somebody's pulling your leg. I've seen every Godzilla movie ever made, umpteen times and I can say without reservation, this is a bogus title someone dreamed up, 'cause it never existed.

Gorgo vs. Servo

You know this film was shown on Mystery Science Theatre 3000, and they are putting alot of those on DVD now, along with the uncut version as a "special" feature. Mabye they'll put this one out soon. I haven't seen this episode yet but considering the fun they had with Gamera movies...

There IS such a movie...

This short film was detailed in the book YOUNG FILMMAKERS, by Rodger Larson & Ellen Meade. The book went into descriptions of films made in the NYC area in the late 60's, one of which was GORGO VS. GODZILLA, a short animated film that also included Rodan. Although I have never personally seen GORGO VS. GODZILLA, rest assured...it does exist. The book even had a few stills showing the renderings of Gorgo and Godzilla. Check your local used bookstore for a copy of this book, as it is long out of print.
