Italian censorship visa # 59474 delivered on 23 December 1971.
Both Tom Tryon and Carolyn Jones had been cinematic castmates of Edmond O'Brien who had headlined D.O.A. (1949) the film noir classic of which ''Color Me Dead'' is a remake. First featured along with O'Brien in The Turning Point (1952) - there making her (uncredited) film debut - Jones would subsequently interact memorably with O'Brien in his vehicle Shield for Murder (1954). Tryon and O'Brien had co-starred in Moon Pilot (1962), a Walt Disney comedy which was a change-of-pace vehicle for both actors.
Both the film's male and female lead would soon try their hand at writing novels. Tom Tryon would enjoy considerable literary success, particularly with his source novels for The Other (1972) and The Dark Secret of Harvest Home (1978). Carolyn Jones's sole literary foray: the show business roman à clef "Twice Upon a Time", would prove a non-event upon its 1971 publication.
