Fun Stuff

Trivia:

According to the date on the marker of the just-stolen coffin (which is prominently displayed throughout), the date of the action in this film is within a year or so of 1905. more

Goofs:

Plot holes: This movie supposedly takes place one year after "Dracula - Prince Of Darkness". In "Horror Of Dracula", the story takes place, according to Jonathan Harker's diary, somewhere around 1887. In "Dracula - Prince Of Darkness", Father Sandor claims that it is about 10 years since Dracula's destruction, i.e. about 1897. Thus, "Dracula Has Risen From The Grave" should take place in 1898 if a year has passed. However, the inscription-plate on the coffin which the priest steals for Dracula gives the dates of Gisela Heinz's life as 1885-1905 - several years *after* the apparent setting. Consistency can only be maintained if we assume that in "Prince of Darkness", Father Sandor was speaking loosely, and meant *over* ten years had passed. more

Author: Scott LeBrun from Winnipeg, Canada

The famed cinematic blood sucker (Christopher Lee) is revived and because a monsignor (Rupert Davies) has seen to it that he can't get back inside his castle, he's mad enough to go about seeking revenge as well as doing what he does best.

Pretty standard Hammer horror. "Dracula Has Risen from the Grave" is made with style, and creates the appropriate amount of atmosphere and menace. Veteran, talented, and award-winning cinematographer and director Freddie Francis does a creditable job with what I think is actually kind of a routine script. As always, I found the stand-out elements to include James Bernard's ominous music score, the lavish sets, and Christopher Lee's performance.

The movie actually features two climactic showdowns with Dracula, and they are both entertaining.

In addition to Lee, Davies is solid and reliable as the monsignor, and other good supporting performances are by Barbara Ewing, Michael Ripper, and Ewan Hooper (who was actually dubbed). Veronica Carlson is beautiful as the monsignor's victimized niece.

Not great but not bad either.
