Sex & Nudity

  • The film deals with significant themes of infidelity, but features barely anything that could be considered remotely sexual in terms of actual onscreen imagery. Extramarital relations are implied almost entirely through dialogue with mild kissing scenes the only sexual activity shown. There is one brief bedroom scene where the man is fully clothed and the woman is implied to be nude with only her shoulders shown. The man quotes some brief mildly erotic bits from Song of Solomon as it implied that he is viewing her naked body. That is as steamy as it gets though.
  • A woman is briefly shown in a semi-transparent nightgown. Her breasts are somewhat visible through the fabric at a medium distance.
  • A location implied to be a brothel with underage girls is shown. No actual nudity or sexual activity takes place onscreen. However, it is implied that a man enjoyed the company of one of the girls and that another man has done so with the same girl in the past. The novel says that the young woman is 17 and that she was underage when one of the characters initially slept with her. The film neither lauds nor condemns this.

Violence & Gore

  • A real unstimulated cock fight is shown. Later, a chicken is shown being killed in a ritual sacrifice. Blood is shown. It seems possible that this is an actual chicken being killed based on the way the scene is shot.
  • A man has his throat slit unexpectedly on-camera with some blood and the full cutting motion shown.
  • Several men are shot onscreen in gunfights and also during an execution. Some blood is shown.
  • A man strikes a woman across the face.

Profanity

  • Minimal mild profanity. Some hells, damns, and uses of bastard.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The characters are all shown to be heavy drinkers.
