Director Richard C. Sarafian went to see the film on opening night and there were only 5 people in the theater. 3 of the 5 people in the audience were his mother, his sister, and his nephew. It was devastating for him, 6 months of work and all his dreams and nobody went to see it.

One executive at Universal felt the title "Andy" was too long and asked director Richard C. Sarafian if it could be shortened.
