Yes. The Last Man on Earth is based on the 1954 novel, I am Legend, by American author Richard Matheson. The novel was adapted for this film by screenwriters Furio M. Monetti, Ubaldo Ragona (who also co-directed the movie), William Leicester, and Richard Matheson (as Logan Swanson). Three more adaptations of the novel have followed: (1) The Omega Man in 1971 starring Charlton Heston, (2) I Am Legend (2007) featuring Will Smith, and (3) the straight to DVD I Am Omega, also released in 2007.

He would have had to share space with rats, roaches and every other kind of crawling vermin. And the stink of rotting food would have added to the unpleasantness. The large panes of glass would have been impossible to protect and would have allowed the vampires to see everything Morgan was doing. And a supermarket has too many places for the undead to hide and wait.

Is this available on DVD?

Countless distributors specializing in public domain movies have released The Last Man on Earth (1964) onto VHS and DVD. Beware. Some small distributors market copies of both public domain and copyrighted films with poor picture and sound. Others are more reputable and deliver good transfers of the best available prints.
