Trivia:

It has long been stated that the entire cast of Gilligan's Island never received residuals beyond the first four reruns of each episode. This was true for the entire cast except Dawn Wells. When the show was picked up by CBS and Dawn was cast to replace Nancy McCarthy, she was married to her agent at the time. In her original contract she was to be paid $1200 per week plus the residual contract the 6 other castaways received. Her husband/agent said that should the show become successful Dawn would not benefit from receiving such a limited residual option. Believing the show would flop, the CBS executives humored Dawn and her husband and put a clause in her contract giving her long-term residuals should the show ever syndicate. As a result from that clause Dawn has made literally millions of dollars as the years have gone by from syndication of Gilligan's Island. This was never public knowledge. Dawn and series creator Sherwood Schwartz are the only individuals to profit long-term from the series.

Goofs:

Errors in geography: In "X Marks The Spot", the radio announcer gives the target coordinates for the Powderkeg missile as 140 degrees latitude, 10 degrees longitude, which the Skipper (an old salt in these waters) and Professor confirm. Lines of latitude only go up to 90 degrees. Transposing the coordinates, though (to 10 degrees N latitude, 140 degrees W longitude) would place the missile several hundred miles southeast of Hawaii - the approximate location of the island.

Silly compared to what?

Why is Gilligan's Island considered so often as the silliest show on TV? Perhaps because it wasn't set in white suburbia?Because there was no house,no kids,no first dates,no report cards,no morning newspaper, no boss,etc.Was it really sillier than its rivals,such as Bewitched,Munsters,Flying Nun,Addams Family,Jeanie, etc,which were basicly stupid gimmick shows,featuring fantasy in the middle of pseudo-reality?

Some Gilligans Island episodes were very good and funny(by TV standards);some were stupid (by any standard).Yet unlike the other shows of its genre it clearly told all of us-this is fun,this is campy,this is a spoof of pop culture.It isn't reality. Maybe that's why we remember it(love it or hate it) and forget so many other shows.
