Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Eleanor crashes her car into a tree and dies at the end of the film. It is left to interpretation as to whether she deliberately took her own life, or if it was the influence of Hill House. The act and the ambiguity surrounding it are intentionally disturbing.
  • At the beginning of the film, it is explained the wife of the houseowner was killed in an accident, and we see part of the crashed wagon afterwards. The housekeeper's daughter died in a nursery, and the caretaker of the daughter hung herself eventually. We see her dangling legs but nothing else. The main character crashes her car into a tree and dies. We see the crashed car and her body later.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The film is infamous for showing very little in terms of explicit supernatural content; instead using shadow, sound, and the power of suggestion to generate fear.
  • A bloody face appears out of the attic for a brief moment.
