A movie that portrays a terrible experience of world war 2 (spoilers)

Warning: Spoilers
A short yet historically correct movie that tells us the story of a regiment of English soldiers brutally murdered by SS troops in occupied France after they had surrendered. However a soldier (Bill Carter) manages to escape and rescue his wounded friend (Albert Pooley). These are the sole survivors of the regiment. Later Carter is forced to take Pooley to a hospital that is controlled by the Germans. Pooley is sent back to England in exchange for some prisoners of war while Carter is sent to a prison camp. Carter is killed, however Pooley vows to find the SS officer that killed the entire regiment and avenge their death.

Although this is an old movie I enjoyed it because it was well done and the events in the film were very accurate unlike many war movies that we see these days.

Very good film.

I had the great good fortune to tape a showing of this rarely seen movie many years ago when it aired over Los Angeles local television early one morning in late 1978. Apparently, there are no current plans to issue this film on either VHS or DVD. This is a pity.

I have noted that IMDb's write up of this film parrots the same misspelling of Cyril Jilly rather than the correct spelling of Cyril Jolly. I have entered a request for this correction with IMDb but have seen nothing corrected as of this date. I hope that this will be corrected in due course.

The book written by Jolly, The Vengeance of Private Pooley, is worth looking for on the various internet book search engines. It makes for compelling reading.
