Comics Galore Outshined By Cosby At Tribute

27 October 2009 3:40 PM, PDT | Studio Briefing - TV News | See recent Studio Briefing - TV News news »

A host of veteran comedians, including Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Carl Reiner, Sinbad, and Dick Gregory, paid tribute to Bill Cosby as he received the 12th annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC Monday night. And while each of them drew laughter from the audience, they were all upstaged by clips from Cosby's TV appearances over nearly a half-century. Even a routine featuring Seinfeld and Rock together fell flat, with Seinfeld acknowledging the fact by remarking that everyone in the audience was probably thinking, "I thought these two guys would be funny together," and Rock rejoining, "But we're not." All of the comics told how they had listened to Cosby's comedy albums as children and how they were influenced by them. All, that is, except 87-year-old Carl Reiner, himself a former Twain Prize recipient, who »

(S03E05) - "Once upon a time's gotta count for something." - Zloz to Hank

Ah, the old friend from back home trick. It's been done so many times before in television. Remember when Rob's old Army buddy came to town in that one episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show or that one time when Don Rickles met up with his old pal Maxwell Smart on Get Smart? Those were some good times.

Imagine those episodes with a lot of hookers and copious amounts of beer, whiskey and vodka. Now they are twice as better, even if the hangover isn't as warm and friendly.

Zloz's one episode appearance felt like the makings of another "Guys Gone Wild" episode where the boys do some drinking, make with the smoking and then get into some fighting, but it turned into something much deeper and helped you appreciate the characters more for what they are. »

"Mary Tyler Moore Show" Brings Spunk To DVD

19 October 2009 4:54 AM, PDT | icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news »

"The Mary Tyler Moore Show" Season Five is currently available on DVD.

Released on Oct. 6 through Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, the latest season of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" contains 24 episodes, including "Not Just Another Pretty Face," "A Son for Murray" and "Ted Baxter's Famous Broadcaster's School." All episodes are remastered in full screen 1:33 aspect ratio.

Following her stint as Laura Petrie on "The Dick Van Dyke Show," Mary Tyler Moore stars as Minneapolis television news associate producer Mary Richards, a single woman searching for love while juggling a career at Wjm-tv and numerous friendships. "Up" voice actor Ed Asner portrays her boss, Lou Grant, a hard-boiled TV news veteran whose gruff exterior counterbalances Mary's spunky personality. Also in the newsroom are writer Murray Slaughter (Gavin McLeod), snarky on-air talent "Happy Homemaker" Sue Ann Nivens (Betty White) and dimwitted anchorman Ted Baxter (Ted Knight). At home, Mary has »

Dress like Don Draper with Brooks Brothers' help

15 October 2009 10:03 AM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Lately, Don Draper has not been coming off as a very nice guy on Mad Men. In fact, he's been a complete jerk. However, if there's one thing positive about the tall, dark and handsome ad man, he's a great dresser. Jon Hamm looks amazing in Don Draper's suits. Well, now so can you. Brooks Brothers is selling the Mad Men Edition suit for a mere $998. (Hey, that's not a grand, unless you count tax).

Don't dawdle, though. There's only 250 suits in the limited edition run. The look is inspired by the Mad Men 1960's Madison Avenue style, which could also be the How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying look from the Broadway show or The Dick Van Dyke Show look, depending on your favorite reference point from the '60s.

NCIS is number one again

7 October 2009 10:27 AM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

It's bigger than the NFL. It's drawing more than celebrity dancing. It's the little show that could. In its seventh season on the air, NCIS is the number one show according to the Nielsen ratings. Over 21 million viewers for the week of September 28 put the drama series on the top of the heap, and there's no sign that it was a fluke. This is the second week in a row NCIS was the top show.

The question a lot of people are asking, especially those who don't watch or have never even checked out NCIS is this: how did that happen? It's not normal for a show to get stronger after the five year mark. Some, like a Seinfeld for example, start slowly and nearly are canceled, but then find an audience and remain secure for the rest of it's run. Before Seinfeld, The Dick Van Dyke Show had done the same thing. »

Elsewhere in the finale, House treats a man whose left and right brain operate independently. The man lives with two different personalities and has no control over his actions, making treatment difficult. Cue some "alternative methods."
