Curtis Regrets Monroe Kiss Jibe

3 October 2008 4:55 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Hollywood star Tony Curtis regrets criticising his kiss with late screen star Marilyn Monroe in Some Like It Hot - insisting their clinch was very passionate.

Curtis once likened his steamy scene with Monroe in the 1959 movie to "kissing Hitler".

But in his upcoming memoirs, American Prince, he reveals the scene actually left him aroused.

He writes, "I (was aroused) all through that scene... and when (director Billy Wilder) yelled .Cut!', she pushed herself off me and gave me a big, satisfied smile."

Curtis also reveals that "after years of putting up with guys coming on to me", he felt nervous about dressing in drag for the movie.

Monroe Footage Discovered

3 September 2008 5:00 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Unseen footage of Marilyn Monroe, recorded while she was filming Some Like It Hot, has been discovered.

The amateur video, featuring Monroe and her co-stars Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, was taken in 1959 by a U.S. navy officer after Monroe invited him to the set at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, California.

The two-and-a-half minute film was found in its original box with the sailor's possessions in Australia, where he had emigrated to.

The video is expected to fetch up to $25,000 (GBP13,513) when it is auctioned off in Melbourne, Australia later this month.

Charles Leski, of Leski Auctions, says, "Marilyn Monroe memorabilia is always in demand, but rarely do we get one-off material like this."

Some Famous Famous Last Words

1 July 2008 5:21 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

If you've seen Wanted, you know that for all the special effects wizardry and incredible action, what's likely to stick with you is the film's closing speech by Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy). We won't spoil the fun for you if you haven't seen it, but it's quotable, easy to remember, and fits almost any occasion.

There is quite a cinematic precedent for famous last words, of course. Billy Wilder alone is on this list three times. Not surprisingly, he has 12 Oscar nominations for writing. The screenplay for Casablanca, always at the top of anyone's list, is featured, too. Some of these you may have heard from time to time but don't know where they're from. And this is certainly not a complete list; these are more or less off the top of my head. Feel free to throw some others at us.

“Oh, no! It wasn't the airplanes. It was Beauty killed the Beast.

Beckinsale's Daughter Is A Monroe Fan

23 June 2008 12:06 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Kate Beckinsale's nine-year-old daughter is not a fan of her mother's movies - and refuses to even watch them.

The Pearl Harbor star admits she struggles to get little Lily to sit through any of her films, because she would rather watch Marilyn Monroe in classic comedy Some Like It Hot.

She tells Britain's Ok! magazine, "She won't watch any of them, not any!

"We tried it actually - we were on holiday and Van Helsing was on pay per view and Lily was like, 'No, no! No, no.'

"She likes Some Like It Hot - that's her favourite movie."

UA's 90th Anniversary Tour

29 April 2008 10:32 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Following a five-week run at New York City's Film Forum, a 90th-anniversary "tribute" to United Artists will go on the road beginning Friday, when the Brattle Theater in Cambridge, Ma screens 20 restored Ua films that Film Forum described as "some of the most entertaining, adventurous, and Oscar-laden American (and foreign) movies of the last nine decades." While Ua was founded in 1919 by Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks, the films being screened were mostly produced during the last half of the 20th century. They include Dr. No (1962), the first James Bond movie, starring Sean Connery; the original Pink Panther film, starring Peter Sellers; Some Like It Hot (1959), starring Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe; the fight films Raging Bull (1980) and Rocky (1976); and the political dramas The Manchurian Candidate (1962) and Judgment at Nuremberg (1961). The restored prints are scheduled to make a cross-country road-show tour over the next year.
