Debut of actress Kamala Devi.
The film was based on a novel by David Walker, 'Harry Black', first published in 1956; its tagline was "Wounded, the tiger waited--slowly he closed in." Re-published by Fontana Books, an imprint of Collins Publishing, in 1958 to coincide with the film release, it features an illustrated cover, featuring film star Stewart Granger in the character of Harry Black.
The original cover price (of the 1958 reprint) was 2 Shillings and 2 Pence (pre-decimalization British currency).
The book is dedicated to Colin Mackenzie.
The book contains a quote from a poem by Sidney Keyes, from "The Collected Poems of Sidney Keyes", published by Routledge and Kegan Paul.
According to the author's note, the prison escape resembles an actual escape from another camp with different people; the Harry Black character is not based on that particular leader of the escape.
In September 1958, 20th Century Fox distributed this film on a double bill with Showdown at Boot Hill (1958) starring Charles Bronson, Robert Hutton and John Carradine.
