The accent used by J. Carroll Naish is no different than the one he used for the evil Dr..Daka, a Japanese villain in the first Batman serial made during WWII.
James Hong is possibly THE most prolific actor in television history. However, he was a regular cast member in only 2 live action series: this one and the even shorter-lived Jigsaw John(1976).
The ratings were poor throughout broadcast, making cancellation inevitable.
According to James Hong in remarks concerning Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022), when making The New Adventures of Charlie Chan, J. Carroll Naish, who played Charlie Chan, grew furious with Hong, who played his son, for not knowing one of his lines and insisted he be fired. According to Hong, Naish angrily told him that the series was not an acting school for Chinese actors. Hong's last credited show is "The Man of 1000 Faces." The irony is that Hong is of Chinese descent while Naish was of Irish descent and had to have his eyes taped in an attempt to make him look Chinese.
