Percy Kilbride became ill while filming Ma and Pa Kettle at Home (1954) and subsequently retired from acting. Although filmed earlier, this was the last released of the eight films in the series to feature Kilbride as Pa Kettle.
The Schine Theatre circuit held the world premiere of this film in 50 of its theatres located in five states.
Because this film was actually made earlier, Richard Eyer, who played youngest son Billy in Ma and Pa Kettle at Home (1954), is not present in this film but returns in the next released film, The Kettles in the Ozarks (1956).
