- Some home video releases "trim" just a few seconds off the opening.
- Both the British and American versions of this movie are on the Emerald Edition DVD.
- One DVD release features a version where the top and bottom of the frame were cropped so that the picture would fit on widescreen TVs. The unaltered version is available on the same disc.
- The German version edited out the scene with the miners and Scrooge scaring Mrs. Dilbur; some scenes were shortened, including the appearance of Marley's ghost and the graveyard scene. The video release reverted these edits and subtitled the missing scenes.
- There is an Italian edition of this film on DVD, distributed by DNA srl, "A CHRISTMAS CAROL (Scrooge, 1951) + LO SCHIAVO DELL'ORO (Colorized Version)" (2 Films on a single DVD), re-edited with the contribution of film historian Riccardo Cusin. This version is also available for streaming on some platforms.
- Also available in a computer colorized version.
- In American prints of this film, some of the sound and music mix in the "Marley's ghost" sequence is different.
- The colorized version moves a scene with Tiny Tim to the beginning of the film instead of the original placement about 15 minutes into the film.
