Sex & Nudity

Violence & Gore

  • A man turns into a werewolf and begins to destroy everything in the room.
  • Dracula bites Wilbur's girlfriend on the neck. No blood is shown.
  • The Frankenstein monster is burned to death at the end of the film on the pier. Dracula and the Wolfman are drowned. The monster goes on a destructive rampage through the castle, tossing a woman through the window (which is quite violent for it's time), and tries to kill Dr. Morineau.

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • One very brief mention of getting drunk by Chick who believes Talbot is hungover the next morning after being the wolf man.
  • A brief moment of the invisible man lighting a cigarette at the end of the movie.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Despite the film's overall slapstick tone, the monsters are intentionally not depicted comically, and retain a considerable amount of their original menace.
  • Suggested MPAA rating (if ratings had been available in 1948): PG-13 or even R due to intense/terrifying scenes and violence.
  • It's a comedy but a few scenes may be frightening for some very young kids.
  • The scene where Talbot transforms into a wolf at the beginning and starts tearing up his apartment, the vampire bat changing into Dracula, and Dracula and the monster coming out of their coffins.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • A woman kisses a man (his eyes are closed) whom he thinks is his girlfriend and has come back for a kiss.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The finale features some surprisingly intense imagery that may be frightening to younger viewers (the Wolf Man and Dracula battling each other, the Monster crashing through doors, the fiery destruction of the Monster, etc)
  • Frankenstein's Monster tosses a major character through a window to their presumed death. The character is villainous, but the act may still be shocking/disturbing to audiences unprepared for traditional horror violence in this mostly comical film.
