1. Godfrey knows what kind of person Cornelia is and that she has it out for him. He was probably looking for her to pull some kind of stunt.

2. It's clear that someone had been in his room. The bureau drawer was left open and the covers on his bed were pulled up. The maid is no longer allowed in Godfrey's room, so any evidence that someone had been there would have been suspicious.

Molly is looking for a three-letter word for a seabird, middle letter R. The only word that fits is ern, another name for the White-tailed Eagle or Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla).
