Some Warner Bros. warnings to Americans are timeless . . .
oscaralbert10 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
. . . and BUDDY THE DENTIST is a good example of that. This brief cartoon begins with Buddy making a batch of fudge for his Sweetie Cookie in his kitchen, as his dog Bozo looks on. As Buddy squirts perfect fudge squares onto his cooking sheet with a specialized culinary device, he foolishly delivers a couple shots of the brown stuff directly into the mouth of his begging canine. Then, when he's on the phone to Cookie shortly thereafter, the greedy Bozo manages to knock the entire three-pound batch of fudge onto the floor and scarf it all up before Buddy can get off the phone. This is enough Theobromine (chocolate's fatal ingredient, as far as dogs are concerned) to kill the 16-pound Bozo three times over. Knowing that having Buddy abuse Bozo's corpse would not be as instructive for the purpose of keeping Americans from similarly offing THEIR OWN pooches, Warner Bros.' animators miraculously keep Bozo alive for a few minutes more with a mere toothache. This allows Buddy to blow up Bozo like a Clown Balloon at the Macy Thanksgiving Day Parade with the helium tank he keeps handy in his kitchen for just such emergencies. After a lot more wild Hijinks, Buddy ends up sprawled on the ground with the finally expired Bozo in Cookie's front yard, missing one of HIS OWN canine teeth, signifying that losing your dog is just as bad as having your tooth yanked out.

Dentist trouble with Buddy
TheLittleSongbird13 September 2017
Now a fairly obscure character, Buddy was the second Warner Brothers Looney Tunes character, after Bosko and followed by Beans the Cat. Buddy didn't last long, being retired in 1935 after 23 cartoons starting in 1933.

Although not a mind-blowing cartoon, 'Buddy's Adventures' is by quite some way one of the best of a very mixed bag, which tend to range between mediocre (i.e. 'Buddy's Show Boat' and 'Buddy's Bearcats') and decent (i.e. 'Buddy the Gob'), with a lot of average ones. While not quite one of the rare very good Buddy cartoons such as the previous cartoon 'Buddy's Adventures', 'Buddy the Dentist' is in the better half of Buddy's filmography and one of the above average ones.

The story, not unexpected, is slight and obvious as well as starting off a little slow at the start. Cookie comes over as an unnecessary plot-device and the very end is not particularly funny and feels on the abrupt side.

'Buddy the Dentist' in pacing generally is one of the more energetic ones, and Buddy, generally an uninteresting and bland character, shows more personality and charisma and at his least bland compared to the previous cartoons of his.

Once again, The animation is nicely drawn and detailed with the black and white looking crisp, also some of the most imaginative of the Buddy cartoons. Even better is the music score. Music played a big part in the Buddy cartoons and it was essential for it to work, it's catchy and very fitting here.

Stealing the show is Bozo, who is quite amusing and fun in personality, one roots for him too. The voice acting is very good and the gags in the second half are quite funny and well timed.

In conclusion, above average. 6/10 Bethany Cox

Buddy the Dentist was another pretty good Buddy cartoon
tavm28 February 2009
Since most of the action revolves around Buddy's dog, Bozo, this was a pretty entertaining Buddy cartoon. Buddy has made some fudge and he invites Cookie to come over. He also forbids Bozo to eat them. Wanna bet Bozo eats them anyway? Anyway, it's when Bozo eats several that he gets a tooth ache. So Buddy tries to get the bad tooth out...It's when Buddy attempts to get Bozo's tooth out that the fun starts as they go through the neighborhood causing havoc everywhere. Animation is quite good and many of the gags of the last 2 or 3 minutes work quite well. Never mind this could have easily been a Mickey Mouse-Pluto cartoon, with all I just said, I recommend Buddy the Dentist.
